Jekyll and Hyde nature of this team strikes again. We could have beaten the Yankees yesterday, but today was poorly played offensively and defensively. We got a win vs. a middling team and the wins are all that matters, but we have to be better than this tomorrow.

Amazing job today by Cate and Stefanski.

Great pitching will put you in position to win a lot of games, and that is what happened today.

Bad control problems for Montgomerie, allows one run, but strikes out two to get out of the bottom of the 1st inning. Sam Nepiarsky was warming up in the bullpen.

Montgomerie has better control in the 2nd, but allows one more run. UConn down 2-0.

B4: Coach Penders will signal to the 'pen, replacing Montgomerie with Sam Nepiarsky. Runner on first with no one out.

Radio boys also relating that WM not happy about being taken out and may have barked at Penders on way off field.

NEpiarsky getting his shot now. Wonder how much longer Penders can keep going to Montogomerie, has really had control issues this year.

What does he expect with 4 walks, 3 wild pitches and 4 steals against him? Not sure if those are on him or LeFavre?

Chris Jones reported at the beginning of the game that Tim Cate will get the start next Saturday, and then said today's starts would determine who between Montgomerie and Rossomando would get the start next Sunday. We'll have to see what Rossomando does later today, but at least for right now it looks like Montgomerie has failed the audition for the weekend starting spot.

Nice to see Buckley get a start. Let's see if his bat can be as potent over the course of a full game as it is in pinch-hitting situations.

I certainly agree. Buckley was good off the bench last year as well.

Rossomando has been working in and out of jams through 4 innings, has not yet allowed a run, and CSUN only has one hit off of him. Scoreless game in the 5th.

Top of the 5th, Connor Buckley double and a Stefanski sacrifice fly makes it 1-0 UConn.

.-.
Rossomando tired in the the 6th, and Domnarski and Over both got an out to get out of the inning. Over gets a 1-2-3 inning in the 7th.

Over gives up a single after the homer, comes out, and Darras gives up a sac fly in the 8th. CSUN up 2-1 top of 9th.

Well, while Rossomando had problems with his control, he also allowed only one hit and no runs while he was in the game. The WHUS guys thought he was rather impressive when he wasn't giving up walks. Looks like UConn will have Anthony Kay and the freshmen Cate and Rossomando in the starting weekend rotation for now.
