UConn WBB Leads College Basketball in NIL Sales, Eclipsing Duke MBB

I have no idea what Cooper’s jersey number is, but everyone in country knows who wears #5!
My wife and I attended the conference tournament this past weekend. Anywhere we walked around the Mohegan Sun you observed the number 5 on young girls, some young boys and many adults. Azzi & Sarah’s jerseys were also well represented.

I'll never be accused of being a fan of the legalized pay-for-play system known as NIL, but since the horse is out of the barn ... I'm thrilled UConn WBB is doing this well in NIL sales.

Pretty amazing to be outselling Duke MBB, especially in the year of Cooper Flagg. For better or worse, this stuff matters for the program's future.

You’d think it would make us more valuable to someone.

Worth noting that this article refers only to the NIL Store sales, a very specific data point. Not all colleges have deals with the NIL Store. Notice there's no Juju, no Hidalgo, no University of South Carolina players.

As info, you can purchase jerseys for any of the WBB players at USC, ND & SC, including JuJu and Hidalgo from the NIL store.

Players need to sign up with the NIL store to be included. The athletes you mentioned may have private deals

Wow that's impressive but I already knew that women like to shop more than men. Lots of moms and dads too I think buying little girls Paige jerseys Azzi and that freshman, what's her name; you know the strong one.

Just for kicks, did a search for Chloe Kitts. Her sister Kylee at Florida showed up. She didn't. Maybe you can buy one of her jerseys at this site, but they don't make it easy to find. But my main point was that the original headline might give the impression this is based on some broad look at NIL income or sales. It's not. Still interesting that UConn players are the top performers on that site.

But, is it really? Follow the link to The NIL Store. It is an internet retail site. Click on the “About us” link. It says, approximately, nothing.

Total revenue? Your guess is as good as anyone's.

This all is nothing but an infomercial.

“Women’s basketball apparel sales at the NIL Store surged by 126% year over year for the month of February, …”

So… Feb. sales went from $213.00 to $481, if you read it as an increment of 126%, or $268 if they mean that Feb results were 126% of last year's revenue? The above examples are pulled from thin air, as the cluck bait article provided no revenue numbers.

I hate what NIL is doing to college sports. But, given that it is what it is, I sure hope this report is accurate because, if it is, it suggests UConn BB can compete for talent in this insane NIL world against the Power Conference titans.
Dan Hurley declaring that half his team is -or might be- portaling out is scary.

I like the NIL system just fine. The portal is what's threatening to wreck the sport.

Didn't see this posted already

My nephew (who lives in Tennessee), his youngest kids are huge UConn and Paige fans. They scored tickets to the UConn - Tenn game this year and the kids wore their UConn jerseys to the game. Said the crowd razzed them pretty good, but not in a bad way. They weren't allowed to take their homemade signs in though.
