It's off-season so the alums are on my mind:
Maya's reason for ending her career early was and continues to be a happy one.
But it brought to mind several whose promise of a good or great career in the pros was cut short or severely undermined by injuries (did I miss anyone?):
Shea Ralph, Nykesha Sales, Svetlana Abrosimova, Brittany Hunter, Morgan Tuck have long retired
Those who are still active: Moriah Jefferson, Katie Lou Samuelson, Christyn Williams, Lou Lopez Senechal and Nika Muhl
All of us are familiar with their stories. Some had injuries in College which diminished them before being drafted and continued during their time in the pros Christyn, Lou Lopez and Nika suffered serious injuries in their first years as pros before they could show what they can do.
For me, Little Mo tugs the heart the most - a bit more than Shea - I saw her much more: watching Breanna, Morgan and her anchor a fourpeat! I had visions of her being the next great point guard in the W and would represent the US in the Olympics very well. Alas, a series of knee injuries (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020) and ankle injuries lately have been cruel. While the others who are still active have fully recovered (Christyn and Lou Lopez) or have a good chance of full recovery (Nika), Little Mo is already severely diminished but still trying to play the game she loves.
For all of them....(Hmmmm...this doesn't show crying emojis)
