UConn vs. Northeastern @ J.O.C. (4/10/19 @ 3p)

No reason not to sweep Memphis at home this weekend. Need the 5-0 week to undo a good part of the damage to our RPI suffered last week. Not in danger of missing the NCAAs, but a lot of work to get started on really quickly if we want to win the AAC or get a first round site.

This is a much improved Memphis baseball team. Certainly, not a sure thing we should sweep.

I had to go out after the 5th inning and tried to access gametracker to get updates. Super frustrating that they can't get it right. Thanks for the play-by-play here guys!

Two-Out RBIs Lead UConn to Victory vs. Northeastern

Notes
  • The Huskies have two players that have reached base in at least 30 consecutive games. Mike Woodworth (30) and Anthony Prato (39) both extended their streaks on Wednesday.
  • Anthony Nucerino is riding an eight-game hit streak after his two-single in the fourth inning.
  • Randy Polonia earned his first win since May 14, 2016 vs. UCF.
  • The Huskies are 11-3 when Pat Winkel gets the start behind the plate.

This interview has an interesting bit on Jake Sanderson, and how they are trying to expose the college game to him in these stints. Trying to give the freshman little morsels to get him used to things. Coach Penders also talks about Karl Johnson from yesterday's Bryant game, saying it is very hard to hit him, he just needs to throw more strikes. If Johnson throws more strikes, that gives the team an incredible weapon.

The top five hitters in UConn's batting order today (including Nucerino who is just now starting to see a lot of game action) now all have on base percentages of .400 or better. You don't see that sort of thing too often.

There are no dogs in AAC baseball this season, that's for sure. Sweeping any team in the conference is going to be a tall task. I thought Cincinnati with their bad start was a bad team, but they have certainly turned that around with their play and the wins they have had in recent weeks. The worst RPI in the conference right now is Cincy at 139, and that is not bad at all.
