Collier, Butler and Chong.

A 62-point MOV blowout with eight Huskies scoring in double digits makes it hard to limit the Badass Awards but Nat, Pheese and Saniya each brought something special to this game.

Natalie shook off a bunch of rust and racked up a fine stat line in limited minutes, not to mention bringing an imposing presence on the court and generating renewed optimism among the fathful.

Napheesa was active at both ends, a perpetual nuisance to the Bearcats, and BTW scored a double-double. (Almost got called for a flagrant foul while dribbling at full speed in front of a pursuing Cincy player.)

Saniya solidified her case to be the third guard (this year) by her confident play (both ends) and deadly shooting.

I expect some will think I am doing a disservice to [fill in the blank]. If so, suggest which of these three deserve deletion. To reward more than three (with 25+ games to go) would cheapen this unique Boneyard award.

I'd give it to Natalie as she was in the flow of the offense from the minute she stepped on the court. If Geno is able to give her some significant playing time before the tournament she'll be a great help against the teams that have a size advantage. In the tournament I can see a starting lineup of Natalie, Morgan , Stewie, Kia and Moriah against So Carolina's size. Obviously will need to see more from Natalie before that would happen.

Napheesa, a perpetual nuisance. I like that. Never slows down, a nightmare on defense.

My three would be Collier, Butler and Stewart.....16 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 22 minutes and third on the all time scoring list as a bonus.

All I know is the team gave us 2 boxes of brownies after the game delivered by "The Nurse" right before their bus left.
That makes them all badasses in my book! ;)

In this game it was NATALIE BUTLER JUST BEING NATALIE BUTLER!!!!
Give Geno an assist on Colliers stats--to his credit he gave her lots of time while Dad was watching.
Saniya ---what is there to say, super performance to follow up a superb showing against MD
Just a bit of MD follow up---total Team Confidence prevailed they never thought they could lose.
Cinci was a nice game to allow the juices to settle.
Ekmark showed once again she can drill the 3, Gabby showed she should be shooting the 15 footer
NO DIS service --this time. But I shall be watching you!!!!!

Nat - 11 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals in 15 minutes in her first game in a year and half? Pretty damn bad ass, if you ask me.

You make a good case for Stewie, but you deleted Saniya. I confess that I was influenced by the published reports of the ordeal that Saniya goes through (with Rosemary's expert help) just to get on the court for practice or a game -- which qualifies her as a dedicated and gutsy Badass. IMO. ;)

Good point about Saniya. For me.... Stewart is a no-brainer and hard to ignore Collier's double double. So I guess it comes down to Butler and Chong. Both are coming back from injuries.....tough decision but that's why they pay you the big bucks. :)

I'm just wondering...

...what South Carolina and USF must be thinking about now after a night where the preeminent Breanna Stewart moves from 6th place to 3rd on UConn's all-time scoring leader list ...and we look right past her and hand out the game badass award to a freshman, a junior guard who has been hampered with injury and hardly played all year, and a transfer who played in her first ever UConn game. Wow. I almost feel sorry for them.
:) :D

Kib---Saniya has worked through a lot over these past 2 years and with two pretty nice performances, attacking the basket with glee, and scoring a few 3's---it does not matter how much she influenced either game--it's the GAME in the girl that came through--and you were right on this one--
But I am watching you!!

No one is looking past Stewie---how can we?? She is, right now, the heart and soul of Uconn. When a Transfer, Freshman Forward, and a hard working Junior stood up and and said NOTICE ME. We have to make note of this game (or two). It is suffice to say Stewie SHALL receive many more B.A. awards . Maryland, ND, South Carolina and Baylor should be taking notice that Uconn is no longer a one, two or three pony show (with or with out tricks) Now if KLS accepts the jarring of her brains (by being butt kicked) watch out.

A little under the weather so was not able to join DavidinNaples to watch the SNY cast and am now awaiting (somewhat patiently) the posting of the game. That said if we needed just one award I would opt for either the entire bench or I would lean towards Butler. Been almost 21 months since her last "game" time and she put out a stat line for a 15 minute appearance she can be proud of, no matter who the opponent, Don't know if Geno limited her minutes or her "game" shape did but in any event barring any further injury she has 11 games to get ready for SC. over a full 5 weeks so my expectations for her contributions then are high.

Don't miss seeing this game---it's not about the quality of the team played or the drama like the MD game--lots to watch--Butler, Collier (and her Dad), Chong Chong (she deserved to be watched twice) and Katie Lou. Katies stats were not so great--it's the energy she showed.
Butler--I've been hyping--and told "let us see"--and in this particular arena she was OUTSTANDING. It's a got to see twice game.
Hope you are feeling better. Geno's had her nearly a year and a half, I think that showed. Think Steff.

The Flagrant no call was a good call. Napheese moves with her arms flying--stick you nose in there at your own peril.
I have to say this--and this is ONLY MY OPINION--I thought that Jamelle has to be a bit proud of her women--no real back down, or give, or give up came from them
The team calls her a "ball magnet" and we can see why!!
I wonder what Geno see in this kid???????????????? Hmm

I say all or nothing - choosing any specific player or group of players just disses the players left off. Uconn as a team should get the award! The starters crushed the opponent and then the bench came in and shot 17-27 for 63%

After the Cincinnati game SNY named Collier as "Player of the Game" and interviewed her on the air to reinforce the honor. This is standard practice, sometimes with the coach, sometimes with two players.

Similarly, two or three players are selected for the post-game presser, invariably the top performers. Are all other players dissed? I don't think so.

Here on the Boneyard we do something a little different for a very much smaller audience, all of whom can chime in with a comment, a "like," a criticism, or a yawn. I seriously doubt that any players are aware of Boneyard proceedings and, if they were, I think they would be amused rather than captivated.

Lol, I can tell you what I'm thinking.. "Thank the heavens this is her last year!"..

Butler will do well for UCONN. Chong will be a factor this year and Collier is one of the best freshmen in the country... but still, at the end of the day, Stewart is still the player that I'm not excited to play again. She's that much better than everybody else. Morgan and Moriah are that much better because of her. UCONN is that much better because of her. She's just that good. Her presence affects the floor even when she isn't dominating on both ends, she's the literal definition of a "game changer"..

It's not that I dislike Stewart because I don't. I'm actually quite fond of her (and Moriah) especially after this summer's Pan-Am Games, when we were all on the same team. Nobody knows for certain what kind of team UCONN will be without Stewart and Jefferson (Tuck?) next year, but one can only hope they'll at least be somewhat mortal..

Hey, bill, under the weather myself a tad, but without being too repetitive just want to say that Tuck and Stewie took care of SC's vaunted inside game themselves last year. Not themselves, really, because as Stewie herself said, the whole team ran SC until they were tired in the first half and then they went in for the kill. Nothing much has changed in that equation with a huge except, KML, the greatest 3 point shooter and very smart contributor inside, is gone. Has SC gotten better - no, not much. Sophomore guard wonder kind still a rambling wreck, center still slow of foot, Wilson sorta better because she is starting, just don't put her under pressure. Only the refs can beat UConn against SC, and that, unfortunately, is a serious consideration down there ... if you know what I mean.

RED FLAG: Take care that by not even mentioning Bre's 20+ points we are simply pocketing them and looking elsewhere for someone's back to pat. I know you don't mean to take Stewart for granted, and let's never do. She's a once in a lifetime player who will be missed for everything that only a player of her eminence can do. So, Bre aside (this week), the award goes to . . .

If points is the criterion on which to select the Bad Dass player of the game-- No need to identifier them further
Stewie, Moriah, Tuck----.
To me to have this awarded a UConn WBB player must: 1. Be outstanding and beyond her normal capabilities 2. Play the game with an attitude 3. Return from some prior situation that limited their "game" and return with gusto (Chong) 4. Score some number of points in a game with an opponent in the top 10 category to change the outcome positively (maybe more)

I think 2 and 3 apply to Chong and Butler 2 . applies to Collier (could have added rebounds for her)

Stewie is beyond amazing --I've used every word to define her in Kibs last B.A awarding for the MD game--if we compared everyone to Stewie most would never win. Fairness may dictate the award every game be given to Stewie then someone else too. But wouldn't that water down Stewies contribution too?
A once in a life time UConn WBB player has come around for me at lest 3 times (top of the head count)..

Hey - no problem from me. I just thought the whole team played really really well - in some games a player stands out particularly or maybe two. In this game ... Stewart and Tuck trading dimes passing into the low post, Moriah on track with 8 assist and 1 TO while playing killer defense, Lou driving and getting to the foul line, Gabby 5-5, 3-3 on FTs, Ekmark coming in and draining a three, Nurse looking sharp and leading the team (bench) most of the fourth Q. It was not a competitive game but it was I think the most complete game Uconn has played. That was all I was saying.
