Is Mel Brown out for the season or will he be back? Seems like I read he would be back for this game or Air Force.

Brown’s surgery was on 9/16/25 and Mora reported that he was out 6-8 weeks (tomorrow 10/28 will be 6 wks):

->“You don’t ever like to put a time limit on what it is going to take a guy to recover, but it is a little different when you are dealing with bone. There is a little more clarity. They say 6-8 weeks. I think the best-case scenario is we get him back for the last couple games of the season if we can get to bowl.

“We will have to make decisions on how much he plays and what he thinks, whether it is the right decision to play him or give him a redshirt and save a year (of eligibility).” <-

Gotta red shirt Mel at this point
In this current, stupid version of college football, it is totally the player’s decision as to whether he wants to come back from an injury and play or preserve a year of eligibility. Because if he doesn’t play when the staff wants him to, he just goes somewhere else and if he wants to play and isn’t allowed, you’re just preserving the year of eligibility for the next team he goes to.

Disagree.

Agree.

Wasn't it Carter who sat out a few years ago after his injury timeline seemed to have passed? And then he took his talents to MSU? And that was before the full blown open transfer policies out there today. Yeah. No need to preserve eligibility for their next team.

Well that's great. Team was outcoached badly by Rice, and he gave the local media a 2 1/2 minute press conference. I guess if the coach is too pissed off to talk he doesn't owe any explanations to anyone.

Always amazes me when a college coach takes out his frustrations on the local media, especially where we have local media here that has been almost uniformly supportive and honestly never asks a hard question. Maybe it was a bad practice this morning.

That could be. Obviously his morning isn't going well.

That presser doesn't make me think less of HCJM. In fact, just the opposite. He answered the questions, and gave a little insight. At the first opportunity left the room to get back to work. Yeah, he is pissed, as he should be. But he controlled himself well. He was respectful. It was not an occasion to be loquacious.

Agree, after seeing the pros and cons, that Mel will be making the decision. If UConn wins the next two games, it will be a temptation to play against Duke. Is the game against Duke plus perhaps a potential bowl game against a P4 opponent worth another season? That is a complex decision to make.
