Michigan State has played a tough schedule and are better than their record, but I'll be a bit disappointed if we don't win 3 out of 4.

Michigan State played in Greenville last weekend as well. I did a quick search of their baseball schedule, and it seems that they play at least one weekend during the spring season in Greenville every year. So the Spartans are definitely used to this field.

Mason back to Fridays?

Figured Feole was on his way back to Friday starts when he started last Saturday. Probably wanted to get him back to Fridays before the conference schedule starts next weekend in Houston. I'm a little surprised that Kersten and Haus are both going on Saturday, as it sounds like Haus is also a pitch to contact guy.

From the UConn website preview of this series:

>Rooting for Randy... Redshirt junior Randy Polonia has not pitched since a stellar freshman season in 2016. The Stamford, Conn. native recorded six saves and last pitched against No. 1 Florida on June 4 in the NCAA Tournament. Polonia had Tommy John surgery after the 2016 season that made him miss the 2017 season and last year had a setback while rehabbing that shut him down for 2018 season. Polonia is traveling for the first time this season and if he were to pitch on Friday, it would be 1014 days since he last took the mound in a competitive game.<

For those who aren't familiar with Randy Polonia, when he pitched in 2016 he featured a killer slider. On those occasions that season when he had his control, Polonia was absolutely deadly to the opposition. I saw him in a game against Houston where for two+ innings they simply could not touch him. However, Polonia also had lots of control problems that season so there were plenty of walks, hit batters, and wild pitches that would drive UConn coaches and fans crazy. If Polonia can throw strikes consistently, then he automatically goes to the back of the bullpen with Wallace and Dandeneau. But throwing strikes consistently was a big if in 2016.

I would initially expect to see him in a low leverage situation.

I would expect that as well. Also, the preseason pitching interview with Coach MacDonald indicated that when Polonia did return that they were going to be slow and careful with him. It's very possible if Polonia does pitch in this series that it will be only in one game.

Hmm...A double up on Mason's pitching on Friday night. Chris Jones will have to be on his toes that night.

Michigan State played in Greenville last weekend as well. I did a quick search of their baseball schedule, and it seems that they play at least one weekend during the spring season in Greenville every year. So the Spartans are definitely used to this field.

From the Michigan State website series preview:

>Greenville / Spartan Connection
Owner/President of the Greenville Drive is MSU alum Craig Brown, who was the 2016 Alumnus of the Year at the Michigan State First Pitch Dinner. In the winter of 2017, Craig and his wife, Vicki (Huber) Brown, were named the Michigan State University Alumni Association's Philanthropists of the Year. Craig Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Eli Broad College of Business, majoring in accounting, in 1973. Vicki Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the College of Education, majoring in special education, in 1975.

As President of the Greenville Drive, Mr. Brown focuses on the activities that result in the Drive being part of the fabric of the community. Fluor Field, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary season, is one of a handful of privately owned stadiums in America and was named Ballpark of the Year upon its debut in 2006. Mr. Brown is also the CEO of Keelers Ridge Associates (KRA), an investment and consulting firm that is engaged in entrepreneurial activities involving sports, technology, and marketing.

Mr. and Mrs. Brown actively support academic and athletic programs at Michigan State. Craig also serves on the Athletic Director's Advisory Council and chairs Spartan Innovations. Formerly, he oversaw the MSU Foundation Board. In recognition of their generosity, an area of the Spartan Stadium North End Zone bears their names. The Browns also belong to MSU's Empower Extraordinary President's Capital Campaign Cabinet.<
