Hoping we win more like 37-10... We gotta show what we got... No holding back... we should beat Merrimack soundly... (we need to)... the players should be playing with a serious chip on their shoulders... If they aren't, I'd be shocked... and extremely disappointed.

His comment about game speed versus practice speed speaks to the discrepancy in athleticism on a P4 to a G5 in terms of depth. I can see his point, however, we got worse instead of better in terms of taking angles as the game wore on.

I'm put off by all the wanking about targeting and the mechanism of it of players moving at game speed and real-time decision making, yada, yada, yada. It's simple. Players can't do it. Simple enough, never leave your feet and lead with your head towards the target.
Good to hear he recognizes a problem with players' tackling techniques. So, what are you doing about it? What's the plan to fix it and how to you hold players accountable when they don't do what they're trained to do in practice?

-> “We did not tackle well,” the UConn head coach said in his Tuesday press conference. “We didn’t bring our feet on contact, we had way too many of the shoulder tackles. I’m sure my dad was watching it and pitching a fit because when you tackle, you open up your chest and you wrap, that’s how you tackle. You don’t (throw your shoulder at the ball-carrier). I haven’t called him because I’m afraid of what he’s gonna say.”

Needless to say, tackling is a major point of emphasis this week in practice. <-

-> “It was a very disappointing performance. It’s tough to replicate the speed that you’re going to see on game day when you’re going against the scout team offense,” Mora said. “Therefore, sometimes an angle to the ball that is successful in practice is not going to be successful in a game. And what happened many, many times is our angles were a little too wide and we couldn’t recover back inside to make a tackle. There was a couple times where we got outran because we took a poor angle.

“It’s refining points of aim and it’s understanding immediately that the speed during a game, especially against a team like Maryland, who is talented, is gonna be different than it is in practice against a service team that is typically your younger guys, your walk-on guys, your developmental guys.” <-
