No question Mason Feole was the star of the game today. 8 quality innings of very efficient pitching, throwing 99 pitches. He keeps this sort of thing up, it might not be long before Feole gets the chance at throwing complete games. Also, the bullpen in general had an excellent weekend as well.
Meanwhile, there has definitely been a sighting of John Toppa's bat. He now has four multi hit games in a row, giving the UConn offense a nice lift in the second half of the batting order. At this point I'm assuming he is now going to be a fixture in left field. Coach Penders had mentioned in one of the recent post game interviews that Toppa has been doing very well in batting practice since the BYU series, but the results were not translating to play in games, that is, not until now. Winkel is showing some good signs of late with the bat as well.
Biggest question mark on this team right now is midweek starters. I would think Rossomando will continue to get first call here in the hopes that he gains some consistency of control through repetition in starting every week. UConn has one midweek game against Bryant this coming week. After that, they have two games during the midweek during the last two weeks of April.
