Sunday lineup has a surprise, no Bobby Melley, Gnesda is at 1B. East Carolina's starting pitcher is a lefty sinker baller (according to the last Penders post game interview), so that may enter into that decision. Also, with UConn probably out of an at large NCAA bid, maybe they want to give Gnesda a look out in the field for a possible preview of next season.

Chris Jones said that Melley missed a start in 2014, but aside from that he has been a lineup fixture since he arrived in Storrs.

According to the WHUS crew, Joe DeRoche-Duffin is well enough to play the field today. However, with Melley out of the lineup with his illness, the decision was made to Dan Hurley him and move Gnesda to 1B.

Montgomerie seems to be walking the tightrope today (he already has hit two batters), but has worked out some trouble in his first two innings of work. No score with UConn at bat in the 2nd inning.

WHUS audio still off a bit, but not as bad as yesterday.

Even though Montgomerie has been living a bit dangerously, there is no score through 4 innings.

Is LeFevre hurt too? Seems odd that Susi would catch 3 straight games especially against 2 lefties. LeFevre has been a fairly good hitter this year.

I don't think LeFevre is hurt. I just think they like Susi's defense better, and Susi as a freshman is considered the better prospect for long term growth. LeFevre has done well this season, but he has had a lot of trouble throwing runners out on the base paths.

Montgomerie gets out of another jam in the 6th. He's thrown a lot of pitches so this may have been his last inning. While a lot of Montgomerie's problems can be of his own making, in recent starts he seems to be developing something of a knack of getting out of trouble without runners scoring on him. This knack is starting to impress me.

Rain delay over, game is resuming.

Connor Buckley misplayed a ball that contributed to Montgomerie's troubles in the 6th, now PJ Poulin is taking over in right field in the top of the 8th.

And the rain delay haunts us again. ECU is just the better team. Can't hit, can't score, you can't win.

Hope we are recruiting some hitters. The one game we get some hitting is the one game our pitching let's us down. Unfortunately always seems to work out that way.

Well considering our 1,3,4,5 and 7 batter are all graduating Penders and Co. better be recruiting some sticks or next year is going to be extremely hard to watch

Select "UCONN" from the drop down menu and it'll give you a pretty good idea of how our incoming class will shake out. However, PG is not 100% thorough, so @huskymedic probably has a more accurate list in the recruiting thread.

Obviously Chris Winkel will be HUGE for us if he makes it on campus. I am hearing that getting drafted is a real possibility for him. He should be able to step right into the middle of the lineup and potentially be an upgrade over some of the guys we have there now.

Can you imagine if this team played with the sence of urgency that they do when they're down in the last inning all game.

I've been keeping track of recruits as Huskymedic and others find out about them. I'll post a summary of various recruits on the recruiting thread.

No kidding, let's go into every game and pretend like its the bottom of the 9th and we are down a bunch. Also didn't hurt that the other pitcher had about 140 pitches before we could get to him.
