Not a lot of history. Most recently, they beat A&M and Mizzou in 2009. They lost to Texas in Texas in 2003.

You can never feel comfortable in an 8/9 game, nor when UConn has been as erratic as they have been.

But, this Iowa State team doesn't seem to be:
  1. Good inside--so it will be easier for our guards to stick with shooters
  2. Athletic from the guard position--so they may not be able to break free easily
  3. Good away from home (1 RPI Top 100 win away from home v. 5 for UConn)
  4. Strong defensively from the guard position. Babb may be able to create problems for Lamb, but Bazz and Boat should be able to get into the lane.
  5. A zone playing team.
Couple that with their best player being a poor man's Kevin Jones (only with better passing skills) and I think our team will be okay. Let White get 20-10 for all I care; provided we stick on shooters and AD and AO stay out of foul trouble, they should win this game.
This is perhaps the perfect matchup before Kentucky. If they win they will have had to play 40 minutes of disciplined defense while also having gotten some success and confidence on offense.
Will they beat ISU and Kentucky? Not likely. But I think that if they get to Kentucky, it will come down to the wire, and I like our PG far better than I like theirs.

We won as a 9 vs. a Big 12 8 in 1992.

That's right, Nebraska (back when it was the Big 8).

Okay then, 3-1 v. Big 8/XII teams, and 3-0 when not in their home state. :)
