Pitching has exceeded my expectations today. Barring a comeback, the offense cost us.

Bottom 8th, after a leadoff single by Padilla and a 1 out infield single by Sphur, the UConn offense has a scoreless inning. 4-1 Northeastern.

Top 9th, Finn gives up a leadoff single, the runner moves to 2B on a sac bunt for the 1st out. Finn comes out of the game, Caruso comes in to pitch, facing a lefty hitter.

Caruso walks the 1st batter he faces. Caruso comes out of the game, Afthim takes the mound.

Afthim gives up a 1 out double that drives in 2 runs, 6-1 Northeastern.

An error by Dougherty/Daniels allows another run to score as the batter gets to 2B. 7-1 Northeastern.

Bats seriously couldn’t figure out these Northeastern arms this year. Really don’t want to see them in a hypothetical regional in a few weeks

Bottom 9th, MacArthur gets a 2 out single. Suchy pinch runs for MacArthur, Root pinch hits for Garbowski. The UConn offense has a scoreless inning. Northeastern wins 7-1.

Northeastern is now at No. 24 in the RPI rating, UConn is now at No. 43.

We could not afford to give up multiple runs early and play from behind. As I said earlier. And yet, instead of starting Cooke we started someone we didn’t have faith in and got the expected result. You take double elimination tournaments game by game, but if we don’t have one of Cooke, Finn or Shaw ready to start and give us 4 or 5 innings in a game #4, the bats better be ready to give us a boatload of runs.

Yesterday was very disheartening. 20-2 is a great run even against poor competition, but there are not meaningful scalps we’ve taken from the run either.

I didn’t understand it either, but I let Coach make those decisions. It’s above our pay grade.

I have heard from a very reliable source, that the coaching staff is not confident in having Cooke start. They believe he pitches better when he doesn’t know when he is going to pitch. So that is probably the reason he has not been given another start.
I’m sure the staff was hoping to get a few good innings from a starter, then bring in Cooke.

I'm not disagreeing with you. You heard what you heard and are just sharing. For a guy trying to land a pro career like Cooke that would be something if that got out. Hey scout.....just dont let the kid know he is playing....plays with his head. Better to just surprise him out of blue- he will do better for ya.

it gets to game 4 of the Big East Tournament he better figure it out quickly. Can't afford to start out behind.
