Really wish that baserunning blunder hadn't happened - could've been a big first inning. On the bright side, it seems like the bats are a little warmer today.

Montgomerie sounds very solid through his first two innings on the mound. However, the UConn bats need to wake up. Stefanski just got a hit, so we'll see what happens.

Three run homer drives Montgomerie from the game in bottom of the 6th. UTSA now up 5-2. Doug Domnarski coming in to pitch.

.-.
I think the signs were there that he was tiring in the 5th and certainly after the 4 straight balls after 0-2 count.

Agreed. I got concerned with Mongomerie when the lead off man got on in the 6th.

UConn offense making a little noise. Now 5-4 in the 8th.

Two newcomers, Domnarski and Dan Rajkowski, do a solid job in relief today.

Gnesda single scores Sundberg to tie it up in the 9th!

Highly touted freshman PJ Poulin in to pitch the bottom of the 9th.

Poulin gets one out, then two runners get on, 1st and 2nd bases. Nico Darras coming in.

.-.
Ruotolo's suspension is looming even larger than I thought it would. Darras seems like a good teammate and all, but no way do I want him out there with the game on the line. If I'm Penders/MacDonald, I'm looking at who else on the staff can potentially be more consistent there. Maybe Rajkowski's performance today will set the table for an increased role going forward.

Rajkowski and Domnarski did well today, and that got them a good notice from Penders in the post game interview. They will both certainly get more chances, as will the other freshmen pitchers. Chris Jones during the game was again talking about Domnarski possibly ending up as one of the midweek starters.

Penders makes a few lineup changes heading into #UConn's series finale at UTSA:

5-3 UTSA bottom 5. Zapata was chased after 2 giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and 1 K, Rossomondo has been solid in relief so far 2 outs in the 5th.

.-.
6-4 UTSA top 7, UConn with runners on 1st and 2nd 1 out. Deroche-Duffin coming up after a pitching change. Rossomondo went 3 innings, Nepiarsky gave up a run in the 6th.

Redshirt freshman Jack Riley comes in and pitches a solid bottom of the 7th for UConn.

UConn has a rally going in the 8th. One run in, bases loaded, one out, Melley up, with UTSA changing pitchers.

Bases loaded for Melley down 6-5 with 1 out in the 8th. Big single by Melley drives in 2 and Yahn thrown out at 3rd followed by 2 out double by JDD, now 2nd and 3rd for Gnesda.

Melley single drives in two runs to take the lead. Yahn thrown out at 3rd, so two out.

Devin Over warming up in bullpen. Chris Jones says Nico Darras not available to pitch today, possibly to the relief of Stairmaster.

.-.
Deroche-Duffin, who had doubled earlier in the inning, scores on another wild pitch.

5 run 8th now 9-6 UConn Over coming in.

Did UTSA start a lefty? Penders had talked about platooning Stefanski with a righty hitter. Also, Penders had talked about Lefevre starting one game in place of Susi during the early season weekend series. Susi is a lefty hitter, LeFevre a righty, so that would be a natural platoon as well.

Polonia makes his debut 1st man reaches on an error by Daniello, who redeems himself by turning 2 on the next batter, walks the next man 4-0, strike out to end it. UConn picks up its first W of 2016 and Polonia grabs the save in his debut.

Riley the W in his debut as well. Melley and Lefevre both go 3/4 Melley with 2 runs and 4 rbis including a HR.
