UConn @ UCF (11/20/2021) on BOT Agenda

we’re a buy game for UCF
WOW.... Dream, no punctuation? Are you asking Christ or complaining to him? ;)
Celebrating the fact a scheduled game that has us up against a recent NC, (their words and trophy like the Con flict one) getting the ching is bad ?
Scheduling a Florida team is bad ?
This is a good rung on the ladder of our way back up. Two more years of developing players, could be a trap game for them and a double win for us.
Another step showing DB is working behind the scenes to the detriment of all the complainers. That and those whom do not realize there are actually 20 sports to find a schedule for asap......

Let me second the motion for @UCONNJACK breaking this story. I would love to know how you were able to get word first! Solid news for our program. Independence is starting to look a bit more manageable now. I have to also award some kudos to the missing person formerly known as Dave Benedict for working this out also. Well done...

>>If approved, UConn’s contest with the UCF Knights will be the fifth for UConn’s 2021 football schedule. The Huskies are currently scheduled to host Holy Cross (Sept. 2) and Purdue (Sept. 11) and travel to UMass (Oct. 9) and Clemson (Nov. 13) that season.<<

It means $2.5 million with UCF and Clemson coming in. Not bad at all and will help with cost

Why does this have to go to BOT?

Doesn't the AD have the ability to schedule games?

It’s a State contract. AD can negotiate the business terms but prior to execution it has to be reviewed/approved by the UConn General Counsel (and the the State AG office depending on contract value amount) and approved by the BOT prior to execution by the President (or authorized signatory)

Wonder if this was why Edsall got so pissy on the question of playing UCF in the future. I would think he would have known a buy game was in the works...

If we can get a home and home with a Big Ten team (Maryland) and there are rumors of similar series being worked out, why the heck do we need to play a road buy game vs an AAC team?

Plus, one buy road game per year is likely a necessity as an independent, but two such games almost ensures that you are only playing 5 home games. That is a problem if we want this independent experiment to work.

UCF was the school Edsall said they had discussions with about playing in the future. It was questions about playing USF in the future that got the reaction - not UCF.
Close enough. ;)

Just to be clear - UConn should turn down one million dollars and a game vs a likely top 25 opponent so that we could play a home game when we are 2-7, in November, in front of 8,000 fans (half of which will get in with free tickets)?

Kinda sets the barometer for G5 teams wanting UConn to come to them to fill out their schedule without wanting to go to East Hartford to play.

UCF needs a home game, UConn is available, UConn needs any game, UConn wants to play in Florida, there is no reason for UCF to want to play in CT. $1m solves everyone's problems.

Clemson is one thing. Being the buy game for UCF feels gross. Like sleeping on your buddy's couch after being evicted from your apartment. Are there any schools that play buy games as the road opponent who are not bottom feeders in FBS?

Using this logic, UConn should play 10+ road buy games to make more money. It just doesn’t work that way. You need home games to be a successful program because at the end of the day they sill need to win at some point to survive and home games are much easier to win.

But I guess my biggest point is that if you are going to play a road buy game against a team we have no chance on paper of beating, do it against a Power 5 team. Those are not difficult games to get.

the fact that anyone can find a way to complain about this news given the current sorry state of the program just boggles my mind....
The complaints are a commentary on the state of the program. No one is saying it’s a bad game or we should turn it down it’s that we are so down on the rung that we are a bag game for a program like UCF.

PRHusky is clearly saying it’s a bad game. So, someone...
