Looked around but didn't see an off topic board that really fits, and since this is (mainly about) the UConn men trading cards, figured I'd post it here. If a mod wants to move it to another forum they feel fits the topic better, by all means go ahead. But for UConn related trading card discussion, hop on in!

I collected sports cards back when I was a kid in the early 90s, and recently got back into HR hobby. Licensed college cards only recently came back, so I dove in last year. My mission is to complete the Solomon Ball rainbow set (collecting all alternate versions of a player's base card) for 2023/24 Bowman University Best Basketball. I've gotten most of the easier to get cards, but the rarer copied obviously have been harder to get. There is also a 1 out of 1 "superfractor" out there somewhere for Ball but seems like it hasn't surfaced yet ...gonna be hard to get that one.

Hoped to complete the rainbow set before the season started (and Ball goes off) but not looking likely.:D

Also a few other cards of Castle I've gotten (and my holy grail card of Paige and Stephon).

Got 3 hobby boxes today for father's day (day early)

wow to:

1. Paige Bueckers private signings 3/10
2. Maya Moore Legendary Gold 8/10
3. Fearless Breanna Stewart Pink Camo
4. Jayden Ross base card alternate Red /50

Now have extra sigs of:

1. Solo Ball
2. Jim Calhoun 176/199

And plenty of extra variations of base, legendary contenders, campus legends, school colors as well

Congratulations, amazing pulls! How was the condition of everything? QC seems like it was a little hit or miss for this set.

Thanks - QC on the Bueckers 3/10 is perfect - definitely will give to Beckett. The Red /50 for Ross is likely a 9, while I have a Red /50 Azzi that is perfect looking.

Maya's 8/10 looks IMHO either 9.5 or 10 so debating a Beckett grading.

But 6 more boxes show up early this week and will see what that holds.

If I get another Bueckers signature, even base, I will keep and sell the 3/10 once graded as that might be > $1k
 
Managed to track down one more hobby box fairly close to MSRP this weekend. Nothing too crazy (I’m no @Lafayette), but some of the better hits were a Donyell Marshall auto and a Ray Allen fearless in the pink camo.

Among all those legendary huskies, this was quite the pleasant surprise. Don’t think I’ve ever opened a number this low. What a Rip!

Amazing "rip" of the packs! Wow /5 is the best I've seen so far - IMHO they put the best runs into late boxes as it seems these are now starting to show up.
 
So I heard from someone the On Campus insert cards are blaster box only pulls....anyone else hear that? That would explain why none of us have hit an On Campus among the dozens of hobby boxes we've opened. Lol

News to me but like the red/white/blue alts as Blaster only, they do need to sell Blasters with some level of exclusive cards else like David Hasselhoff's last album (in German): No one speaking English is buying them.

Also Panini finally put out an updated checklist that has the full official auto list: https://blog.paniniamerica.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/UConn-checklist1-1.pdf

Just as I suspected, several autos that are short printed (so the mystery of my Fudd/Karaban home jersey autos is solved. Lol). 17 total auto SPs.

Seems on the checklist that signatures for AK, Azzi and Paige have 2 different (one standard, one SP) - interesting as I need to check my binder as I put them in alpha by first then last name like they show. No doubt my Paige 3/10 is an SP by definition but will see.

6 boxes showing up today sometime - will check when home and bust them tonight if I have time.

@ctbro1999 will ping you when I have my final sigs and all to trade.

Have yet to see any 1/1 autographs surface yet....may you be the first to show one off!

Seems like these things shipped everywhere, saw someone on reddit who lives well away from New England say they bought one at their card shop. If they’re in card shops across the country it could be some time til rare low # cards surface

I put them in order of base cards on the left side, then the right side has best version variants.

Fearless is coming along as well.

I wouldn't put it past Panini to do that. It could be that there are simply a lot of true UConn fan collectors that bought up a lot of this set and are not interested in selling on eBay or even posting their "hits" online, but as of today I haven't seen many low numbered (5 or less) cards anywhere. There was the Paige 1/1 gold vinyl Prizm, I think I saw a Calhoun Legendary 1/1 posted on eBay, and I've seen a smattering of green /5 cards, but otherwise none of the 1/1 autographs and even the silver vinyl /10 Prizms have been very scarce.

Makes me almost want to pick up a few more boxes but I've already spent so much on this set as it is. Lol

I sniped a few singles of our guys on EBay, when I was looking at Jackson/Hawkins last year I really didn’t like the look of this set but for some reason I really like this year. The players really pop on them

I've also been sniping on eBay to get deals on better versions of the bases, and sigs mainly.

But then came an auction for cases of Blaster boxes under the MSRP of thirty bananas each, and got 2 cases showing up next week. Those are exclusive to On Campus, the Red/White/Blue and Donuts but also have same cards as Hobby without the hobby exclusives.

With a lot of base cards, if I can get 7-8 sets of 1-50, I can pedal those on eBay for $25 each and use that to pick up any remaining cards needed.

For sigs, hard time finding Bird, Taurasi, Rip, and basically all the SSP versions. I need 8 more.

For base card alts, I am looking for yellow, blue, red versions of each and have about 1/2 of them.
 
I'm tempted to roll the dice by picking up deals on sealed boxes on eBay, but I think from this point out I'm gonna focus my money on picking up singles for this set. By the end of the week I should have all the Thunder insert cards except for Paige (missed out on an auction unfortunately) and also should have both Profiles of Karaban and Paige (as long as the seller actually ships the Paige as it sold for way under what I thought it was worth lol). I also got a Karaban Color Blast but completing that set will not be easy.

Also still trying to complete my Solo rainbow set for 23-24 Bowman U Best. All I'm missing is 1 red /10, red lava /5 and white geometric /5, and of course his superfractor!
 
Good call. While I secured a Tina Charles auto as well as Caron Butler, I'm still 8 SP autos away from the set.

Felt like 20x2x6x4 =960 cards would yield a ton of base cards 1-50, a lot of red/white/blue and donut versions, but hopefully some low number alt I need or sigs needed. If any dupes of what I have show up will post in the trading card forum but if I know you need them, I will let you know.
 
Noticed the Panini NIL Prizm 15 card alternate set has some obvious alternates (I have a green bordered angry Jim Calhoun variant), there is a subtle alternate that you need to examine to see if you have: the holo one.

Holo variant has a slight refracting rainbow to the front if it catches the light, and on the back in the upper right is "PRIZM", while the base Prizm does not have those characteristics.

Found a Paige, an Azzi, and a Solo like that and unless in light, you won't know.

Man, Kaitlyn Chen cards certainly have blown up ever since she got (re)signed by the Valkyries. The fact the Panini UConn NIL set is one of the only sets that have her cards (outside of ONIT) is definitely a factor. Base autos of her that were selling for $25-30 or so are now going for $50+!
 
Hey if you collect the NIL card, there is a Student Orientationn subset (5 cards). Base is white like the other main cards, but the first alt is Halo and it's on a par looking like the Prizm halo - silver.

Same issue - their White Vinyl / 10 is so similar you need to really, really differentiate. The back would have the numbering above the player name but the front IMHO Panini did a bad job of differentiating from the halo variety.

Sharing b/c in my small pile I found a Jana 4/10.
