I agree. And Lucas is going to have to show something with his glove at 3B as well. Conference play begins in two weeks, generally those are the games where you are not going to experiment unless something is going wrong with the lineup, such as someone is in a prolonged slump and not producing. Generally, the New England games are a time when the lesser used pitchers on the team see some action, including guys such as Jake Sanderson and Randy Polonia who have not been traveling with the team. With the deeper team that could include Lucas at 3B.

From what I've seen in the past is that Penders has always relied as much as he can on a set 9 player lineup in the field. We will see if he reverts to this tendency once conference play starts.
 
Chris Jones says Jake Sanderson made the trip, so I must have heard wrong on Angus Mayock. Sorry about that.
 
Chris Jones says Woodworth tweeked his hamstring in yesterday's game. Scoreboard at Texas State is working as well, it wasn't operating in yesterday's game.

Bottom 3rd, no out double off the wall brings in a run for Texas State. 2-1 UConn.
 
A hit off of Prato is ruled an error, it ties up the game. Chris Jones disagrees on the error. Another single gives Texas State a 3-2 lead with no out, 2 runners on. Wurster warming up, Wurster coming in, bottom of the 3rd.

Ah, was wondering what happened there. Hopefully he will be OK for MSU, he has played at an All American level for us so far.
 
We really need a 3rd starter, but not sure if one exists on this roster unless Gardner can earn another shot (and I really hope he does).
 
Caleb Wurster does the job with the help of a Prato line drive double play. 3-2 Texas State going to the top of the 4th.
 
Teams are hitting .360 off of simeone. Not sure he is the long terms answer. It is an accomplishment when he makes it through 3 innings and couldn’t even do that today.

I feel his stuff may play better as a reliever. I don't see the harm in switching him and Chase...it's not like Gardner could be any worse.
 
We don't score in the top half of the 4th, but Wurster records 2 quick outs to start the bottom frame.

Thing about Gardner is that he averaged less than 5 innings in his starts last season (15 games all starts, 69.2 innings), and would only be effective for less than that, which is the reason for his move to the pen. Simeone may not be the answer as a starter, but I suspect that someone other than Gardner may get the call to start.
