Lead off single, followed by a sac bunt moving the runner to second. Freshman Ian Cooke takes the mound for his UConn pitching debut. Cooke gets 2 strikeouts to end the 7th inning tied at 4. Nice debut for Cooke.

Top 8th, Fedko with a 1 out double, Korey Morton pinch runs. Simmons reaches on an infield single to put runners on the corners (3 hits for Simmons tonight). They are stranded, game tied at 4. I would have liked to see Ferrer pinch hit for Donlan that inning.

Agree, was expecting a pinch hitter there. Even Garbowski potentially.

Cooke looked sharp. Can’t imagine a true frosh doing much better when being thrown into the fire for a debut. Let’s go scratch across a run or two and get him a deserved W.

Bottom 9th, Ian Cooke still on the mound. He has been training as a starter, so he might be in for a while if the game stays tied. Funny thing, Chris Jones said the same thing right after I wrote it.

Bottom 9th, Cooke strands a runner at 2B who got there with no one out. Game tied at 4, going to extra innings.

Huber with a nice lil dive to get that final out. About time we flashed the leather too!

Looks like we’re taking a page from the men’s team and playing a nailbiter. Hope we do better than they tend to (although getting the last two done was improvement) and that it doesn’t become a similar habit!

Great win. All solid teams in this tourney, but Charlotte may be the least impressive on paper. God knows what the bullpen will look like behind Gallagher — Coe, Alejandro and maybe Sullivan — but we should be able to do some scoring.

I want to talk about newcomers who couldn’t get it done, but it was one game and this was baseball. So I’ll be mature and remember that last year Chris Winkle and Kyler Fedko started so poorly they got benched, and will give people time.

We outhit them 11-7 and had way less strikeouts than them, on the road. Nerds will think highly of this performance on the road.

Onto Rice Owl killer Charlotte. Beat them down!

I’m sure it has something to do with the Big East media rights contract, but it seems childish that the school will provide fans links to the internet radio and stats, and doesn’t mention the link to internet tv broadcast.
