Men UConn summer baseball 2025

Don't see this sort of thing too often. Last night Bryce Detwiler was both the starting pitcher and the D.H. for the Norwich Sea Unicorns of the Futures League. For Detwiler, this was his first time as a starting pitcher for Norwich this season, he pitched 2 scoreless innings before leaving the mound. He stayed in the game all the way as the D.H.

The Norwich Sea Unicorns of the Futures League now has Hector Alejandro listed on its online roster. Of course, Alejandro was with Norwich last summer as well. Alejandro's school is still listed as UConn at this point.

The Futures League regular season ends this weekend, and its post season playoffs start next week, I think on Monday.

Hector Alejandro is no longer on the Norwich Sea Unicorn roster. He only pitched in 2 games with Norwich this season.

UConn baseballs incoming freshman RHP Ryan Tatar is now on the roster of the New Britain Bees of the Futures League.

For our pitchers. It’s a lot of throwing. Minimizing shutdown and rest.

I’m not sure how wood bat leagues help college pitchers compete when they get back to school. UConn kids look like Skubal stats-wise, then can’t throw a strike when it counts.

Okay, that’s a bit harsh. I hope the trend shifts toward more command though.

some kids can't handle having every outing (even in the fall) mean something. Watched a lot of guys last year look in the dugout after a walk, hit batter or a rocket off the bat. Pitching scared makes it hard to succeed. Some guys have that compete gene and some don't.

I think this is the downside of travel ball. Too many meaningless games versus representing your high school or Legion ball representing your town or state. Having actual standings and winning titles versus rivals is real pressure. You find out what kids are all about winning, not only about their individual development. Like a pitcher knowing his spin rate and not knowing how many games he won last season.

In the other Futures League playoff game between Worcester and Norwich, Frank Spirito was the starting pitcher for Norwich. The game went 14 innings, and Norwich got a 2-1 victory. Spirito pitched 8 scoreless innings, giving up only 2 hits and 1 walk while he was in the game.

In the 2 Futures League playoff games tonight, it was certainly a big night for UConn pitchers.

Frank Spirito has had a nice summer season with the Norwich Sea Unicorns of the Futures League. Including the playoff game yesterday, Spirito has a 1.85 ERA over 43.2 innings. He has been the starting pitcher in 9 games for Norwich this summer, and has pitched in 12 games.

I thought he was in the portal. Just checked and don't see him in it. Go Huskies.

I was at the game last night, Bryce Detwiler did not start the game, but he took over at D.H. in the middle of the game and certainly made his presence felt very well.

Gio Conte may no longer be with UConn this fall, but he has done quite well with Norwich this summer. He pitched 6 very good innings last night, the most innings he has pitched in a game this summer season.

From Dom Amore’s Sunday Column:

-> Among UConn baseball players, rising sophomore Sam Hutchinson, lefty pitcher from Valley Regional-Deep River, had an excellent summer adventure, playing for the Great Britain, which won the under-23 European Championships in Czechnia, a first for the program. Keep an eye on that name in a future WBC. <-
