The 1st period of the game against Seton Hall was almost a recipe for disaster. UConn's senior point guard, Crystal, was on the bench in street clothes, Anna Makurat was operating on a bum ankle and the entire sophomore class (Christyn and Olivia) were seated next to the coaches with foul trouble. Despite shooting 44.4% from the field in that period, UConn was down by 9 points and the BY chat room was in full panic mode. ;) What followed was a gritty performance that produced a win for the Huskies and some of the weirdest stats of any game in recent memory. Consider:

1. Aubrey improved her free throw accuracy for the year from 43% to 62% with her 10-12 showing at the charity stripe.
2. Molly, who had taken 4 shots all season, made 4 baskets and scored 10 points.
3. The two leading rebounders for the Huskies didn't even start the game. Aubrey (12 boards) and Anna (11 boards) both came off the bench.
4. The two substitutes played more minutes (31 & 30) than three of the starters (Liv, Christyn and Molly).
5. UConn actually finished with a better 3 point shooting night than Seton Hall, 40% vs 38.2%.
6. Makurat, who began the year 0-11 with 3 pt shots, made 2 threes and is now 4-5 in her last 2 games. That is 80%. Molly and Aubrey, who hadn't made a three this season made 3 threes last night.
7. UConn took 19 free throws, all by only two players. Megan and Aubrey made 16 of them or 84%.
8. The Huskies gave up 28 points in the 1st period, the most all season. They then scored 28 points in the 2nd period, the most all season for that period.
9. The UConn bench scored 33 points. Four starters, without Megan, scored 30.
10. Seton Hall started the game 5-9 (55%) from three-point range and finished 2-9 or 22%.

Weird and strange still counts as a win for the Huskies. They are 7-0 and figuring out how to win despite pending disaster. Sunday they play some team from Indiana at home.

Go Huskies..!!
