Napheesa vs UCF.jpg

According to Geno's post-UCF game presser, Napheesa is a machine. He joked she doesn't have blood inside, just wires. Her stats against UCF, and for the whole season, suggest he may be right. Consider:

1. Against UCF, Pheesa scored 9 of UConn's first 13 points.
2. She shot 90% from the charity stripe (9-10) as UCF fouled her again and again.
3. For the season, Collier's 89 free throw attempts are the most by a Husky. Her shooting % is now 70%.
4. Against UCF, she scored 23 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, stole 4 balls, blocked 3 shots and had 1 assist.
5. In the first 19 games, Napheesa's 354 points are 2nd to KLS by only 3 points.
6. She is #1 on the team for rebounds (190), baskets made (143), blocks (28) and free throws made (62).
7. In addition to being a scoring machine, Pheesa has 67 assists, 2nd on the squad. That is more than Christyn and Megan combined.

According to Geno, Pheesa motors every minute of every practice and game. Hence, the machine comparison. He told Megan that to improve her game, she just needs to imitate Collier. High praise from the legend.

Speaking of legends, Napheesa is now 2 rebounds short of 1,000 and 37 points short of 2,000. Reaching those two marks would put Collier in the exclusive club with only Maya, Tina, Stewie and Rebecca Lobo. Great company for the quiet girl from Jefferson City, Missouri. :)

Go Huskies..!!

P.S. - This just in... Pheesa is AAC Player of the Week..!!

Not sure which announcer, but during the UCF game they were talking about Pheesa going first in the draft because she can do just about everything well. Of course they were also talking about how UCONN might be a two seed in Albany because they have an RPI rating of 8 and no seed lower than 7 has ever been a one seed. Therefore, I am not sure how much credit to give these knuckleheads on their opinion of Pheesa.

Anyone know offhand where Pheesa ranks in blocks? Can she make top ten in that category?

That was from Antonelli, who doesn't hide her disdain for UCONN very well. Later on during the telecast Mowins tried to get her to acknowledge that if we beat Louisville we should end up as a lock for a No. 1 seed. Antonelli agreed, and then immediately couldn't resist saying that UCONN surely will be a 1 or 2 seed in Albany.

Why are you guys continually ragging on Antonelli when she stated a FACT that no team with an RPI greater than 7 has ever been a #1 seed? You have plenty of other things to rag her on.

Deb is an intelligent person with interesting ideas. However, her voice grates on me. She made multiple mistakes on Sunday, including calling Crystal by Moriah's name a couple of times and saying that Pheesa was on Team USA for the World Cup. She was the last collegian cut, but did not go to Tenerife. Morgan Tuck nabbed the last slot.

Deb is right when she calls Danger Moriaha---don't you see Danger often time morphing into Jefferson??
They are very similar at this point in their careers. Uconn Geno and WE are truly bless with great PG's.

And yet in the same broadcast she said that if UConn plays like this she didn't think anyone could beat them. Which is it? She was babbling about a lot of opinions without regard to facts or intellectual consistency. Maybe next time just focus on what's happening in front on her.

Babbling about a lot of opinions without regard to facts or intellectual consistency is all the rage lately. Starts at the top, and oozes down. ;)

Antonelli craves a beatable UConn, not much wrong with that. Her bread is buttered by major conferences down south, who really have been the only obstacles for UConn (incl ND as ACC).

She was 8th before the season started. She is currently at 215. Dolson is #6 at 254 and is catchable but Tina is #5 at 304 and that seems to be highly unlikely.
Thanks

There is when she doing a nationally televised game. Rebecca and Kara check their team credentials at the door when they do a game. Not asking too much for Antonelli to leave her bias behind for the two hours it takes for her to cover the game.

Thank you, Jonathan XIV. That's the difference between true professionals and those who are not.

I think one other thing that sort of lends itself to calling Pheesa "machine-like" is that she rarely, if ever, shows any emotion on the court. Sure she smiles (in fact she has huge smiles in the UCONN promo photos of her), but she never gets fired up, fist pumps, etc etc. She's just so good, and so matter of fact about it - but she never seems to get fazed about anything...

Loved her clapping in Mabrey’s face last year!
