Useless trivia because we are all bored and waiting on the season to start. ;)
Only five WBB coaches have won a WBB National Championship in the last 10 tournaments.
(Tourny in 2020 was canceled due to covid)
Here are the last 10 NC games:
2025 - UConn beat South Carolina
2024 - South Carolina beat Iowa
2023 - LSU beat Iowa
2022 - South Carolina beat UConn
2021 - Stanford beat Arizona
2020 - no tournament
2019 - Baylor beat Notre Dame
2018 - Notre Dame beat Miss. State
2017 - South Carolina beat Miss. State
2016 - UConn beat Syracuse
2015 - UConn beat Notre Dame
So, Geno won 3, Dawn Staley won 3, Kim Mulkey won 2 at different schools, Muffet and Tara won 1 each in those 10 years.
(Note- If you go back 12 years, Geno picks up 2 more.)

What about total NC's per coach, over coaching career.
Geno has 12.
Kim has 4. (two schools)
Dawn has 3.
Tara has 3.
Muffet has 2.
So Geno has 12 and the other four have 12 combined. ;)

Congrats Geno..! Stay tuned for more useless trivia.
Go Huskies..!!

Along the same lines, Geno, Dawn and Kim are the only active coaches with NCAA titles since 2007.

Brenda Frese won it with Maryland in 2006, and she is the only other active women's coach with a National title.

Not to worry. Geno is THE SUPER OUTSTANDING COACH OF ALL TIME!!!!!! I think it.s safe to say he has MORE individual records than ALL BB coaches of all time. His teams have more individual records than all other teams. And the players have more records than any other teams. Uising the word MOST again. will NEVER be broken and many are growing bigger every season. GENQ is that once in a life time that comes along and changes the world. GO GENO!!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!

Not to worry. By April, Geno will have one more than the other four combined.

Yikes! Don't do that! The "Duke Invitational" didn't work out too well for them in 1999.
Exactly. There’s no reason to be THAT outspoken about it no matter how confident you are imo. Bad mojo.

I was in Tampa. There obviously was a chance for Duke to be the first double champion, men and women. On Sunday night I asked someone who had won the women’s game and they said Duke. Thankfully it turned out Purdue had won. That’s the only thing I like about Carolyn Peck. Haha. And then some local High Schoolers after seeing my UConn hat started in on how Duke was going to destroy the Huskies. Obviously they were just being jerky kids and trying to get a reaction because I doubt they really cared who won but you could also tell that they had fallen for the media talk of the Duke invitational and coronation and believed it. There was no reason to interact with them except to smile and say, “we’ll see”.

Didn’t know where to put this.

While I hope we meet again in April 2026, we will meet again that Fall of 2026-2027

That makes far more sense for South Carolina. Dawn was wise to not let Disney push her around.

Playing each other annually, independent of the tournament, is good for both programs and must see television.

Geno is a master recruiter and a very good coach. They had a spell after Stewie left where they didn't have great luck or great quality in the depth of the team but usually they won because they had better players. In a couple years they probably had the best 5 and the second best 5 on the same team so how could they lose.

This years team has one great player, one a whisker from being a great player, and a bunch that one day could be great players. I expect them to really make another historic run but maybe not the winning 100 in a row part of it.

are you saying FOX is gonna push us both around?
ESPN wanted the late season game that wasn't in South Carolina's interest. I'm saying Dawn was wise to the hold off on the rivalry for one season in an effort to make whatever broadcaster took the game more amenable to an early season matchup.

I am glad that the team is back on the SC radar. But, the thing I really am upset about is the game is at Mohegan Sun. I have PBA season tickets, and SC hasn't been here the last 2 years because of various circumstances in the past. The best two games that have always been in Hartford are SC and Tennessee. Last year they both should have been here based on the past few years of scheduling, but both had contracts changed, or renewed in the Tenn. case. In my opinion, there are too many "neutral" site games, although some are so close to their campuses that they are almost home games for one of the teams. It is what it is, but the fan bases are missing out on seeing really good teams at home because of the increase of neutral site games. Bottom line is that I am happy about getting them back on the schedule, just wishing that more than 2 OOC games a year could be scheduled at PBA in the future. It's not like our conference has good teams that will generate a close game. UConn is the only good team in the Big East, but the one good thing about that is that we get to see them every game. Watching them is great, but their opponents, not so great.

I just wish it was Dawn v Geno - IN PHILLY
Would be awesome. Brings back fond memories of the 2000 Natty there where, w Geno's mom in the stands sprinkling holy water over the players, UConn delivered a master class on how to combine aggressive defense with at-will backdoors to make the Vols, that year's best defensive team, look like a sieve. Kelly Schumacher set record w 9 blocks (really 10, the last one was all-ball & not a foul as called), Shea was everywhere, and Sue dove iconically onto the court at the finish.
