UConn stats.... Huskies guilty of grand larceny...

With 14 more steals in the USC game, UConn raised their season total in steals to 149. Having played 10 games, we can round up and call it an average of 15 per game. How does that compare to previous seasons? Really well..!!
Consider:
2024-25 = 11.4 steals per game
2023-24 = 10.2 steals per game
2022-23 = 6.9 steals per game
2021-22 = 8.9 steals per game
2020-21 = 9.6 steals per game
2019-20 = 9.1 steals per game

Averaging 15 steals per game is far and away the highest total in the last decade. Leading the way is last year's leader in steals, Sarah Strong with 34 in 10 games. Last season, she led the Huskies with 92 steals. This year, KK is 2nd with 26 and Azzi is close with 21. But the stealing doesn't end there. Ash and Kayleigh are right behind with 16 each and Blanca has 10, including 4 last game. This group will steal the ball and your lunch money too..!!

With a full slate of cupcakes on the horizon, the larceny should keep up. Thoughts?

Yes!! This is due to more healthy and skilled athletes on the roster that are available to press and trap this year than in previous years. Me encanta!

Geno is pressing more than I think he ever has since he has been at UConn. Those traps combined with the good bevy of defenders he has make it very difficult for opponents.

The best season for steals was 1998, when they had 477 in 37 games, or 12.9 per game. They also grabbed 12.9 per game in 1999, when they had 437--5th highest year in number of steals. So they are on record pace this year. Last year was quite good, third with 455, but only a 11.4 pace.

Just when you think there is not much to crow about, these stats show that Uconn is still getting better. Actually I think Uconn CAN get better in every category for the team on defence and offence , not in a criticising way, but in a " make the opposition not know what hit them "way. There are 2 P4 teams slightly ahead of UConn: ND & LSU. It is likely that as teams get into their conference schedules, the steals per game for P4 schools will decline while UConn’s steals per game should increase.

I corrected your statement @oldude. There are 2 P4 teams slightly ahead of UConn: Hannah Hildago U. & LSU. 😆 She probably has more steals than the rest of her teammates combined. She’s a beast!!
