Time for a quick quiz on UConn's 3 point shooting stats while we wait for Sunday's exciting game against South Carolina. These are the answers and each one can only be used once. Sarah, Paige, Azzi, Ashlynn, Allie, KK and Aubrey. (7 questions, 7 answers)

1. Which player has taken the most 3 point shots?
2. Who has made the most 3 point baskets?
3. Who has made more threes, Ashlynn or Sarah?
4. Which regular rotation player w/ over 400 minutes played has the lowest % of 3 point accuracy?
5. Which UConn player has not made a 3 pointer so far..?
6. Which player has taken 81% of their shots from beyond the 3 pt. arc?
7. Of the three shooters making 40% or better from outside the arc, who has taken the least threes?


Answers:
1. Most 3 pt shots is Paige w/ 108. Sarah is 2nd at 107.
2. Most baskets is Azzi with 49. Paige has 45.
3. Ash has made 38, but Sarah has 39.
4. KK is 6-28 or 21%. Jana beats her at 1-4 or 25%.
5. Aubrey is 0-2. Jana and Ice have made 1 each.
6. Allie has tried 57 threes out of 70 total shots. She made 19. Azzi shoots from 3 range 52% of the time.
7. Ashlynn is 38-90 or 42.2% accuracy. Paige and Azzi shoot over 40%, but have 108 and 104 shots.

@DavidinNaples , since you are so skilled at digging up player statistics, may I ask a question that you may be able to answer readily:

How do Sarah Strong's statistics this year compare to those of Aaliyah Edwards last year? My intuition is that they are fairly similar, which is astonishing considering that Sarah is a freshman and Aaliyah was a senior.

Is my intuition correct?

Joe,
Fairly close in several stats. For example, shooting overall Liya finished at 59.3% while Sarah is at 57.3%. (But improving). Liya’s average points last year was 17.6 per game. Sarah is at 16.1, but was nearer to 17 until last 2 games. Rebounds are slightly in Aaliyah’s favor at 9.2 per game vs almost 8. Both lead/led their teams in rebounding and both are/were 2nd in scoring to Paige. Biggest difference is shooting threes. Sarah is making 36% of 107 tries, while Liya was 0-3 for the whole year. So you are spot on, especially given the freshman vs senior reality.

P.S. Best stat for Sarah is blocked shots. In 37 games last year, Liya blocked 36 shots. Sarah already has 37 in 26 games.

This is a live by three die by the three team. Funny in past years UConn was very successful (until recently) shutting down teams that relied on shooting 3s to win. Good perimeter defense and a little luck that they had a slightly off night and it usually meant a win. Now other teams that are athletic are doing the same things to UConn. When you look at the stats made you need to factor in minutes played - or made 3 pointers per minute.
