Spoiler alert…. On paper it looks that way, but probably doesn’t matter exactly who is the “best.” Azzi, Sarah and Blanca are also putting up fabulous shooting numbers, and have been all season. Allie’s caught fire in the last five games, scoring 75 points. That is 15 per game and double figures in 4 of the last 5 games.
Consider;
1. Allie has taken 92 three point shots vs only 33 from inside the arc (74%).
2. Allie shoots 47% from 3 pt. range and an incredible 75.7% from 2 pt range..!! That is 76% inside the arc..!
3. Allie’s numbers went nuts in the Xavier game making 10 threes and scoring 34 total points.
4. Azzi has many more shots (333 versus Allie’s 125), but location is more balanced with 163 threes and 170 from inside the arc.
5. Azzi shoots 45% from three range and 53% on non-threes. Overall she is at 49%.
6. Sarah shoots 39.4% from beyond the arc (37-94) and an amazing 69% from 2 point range (150-217). More than twice as many from inside three range.
7. Blanca has slightly better 3 pt range at 40.4% than Sarah, but “only” 65.3% inside the arc (66 for 101.) Still fabulous..!

So Allie has the best numbers from inside or outside the arc. But Azzi, Sarah and Blanca are close with amazing accuracy. Who cares who is the best, just all get healthy and get ready for the Tournaments..!
Thoughts?
Go Huskies…!!

I look at it from a higher plane and that is, " who cares who the best shooter is ". All I care about is " Uconn is the BEST SHOOTING TEAM IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PERIOD." I credit the starters, the bench, the coaches and most of all GENO!!! Secondly, I credit Uconn's outstanding defensive players that seems to break the will on opposing teams. GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!

I think if you had a shooting contest from the arc, with nobody guarding on defense, Allie would likely win. But when it comes to “game conditions” with a defender closing and the need to quickly release your shot, Azzi gets the nod.
With no defense? I'll take Fudd for a lot of money. Having defense on the floor is the only thing that keeps her from shooting about 75%. That and maybe having a boot on her foot. 😉

I love Allie and after Azzi leaves she will likely be the best shooter on the team but, until Azzi leaves, she is the best shooter on this team no matter what the percentages say. She has done it time after time under fire, in big game after big game and that matters far more than a few percentage points. I have great hope that I’ll be saying the same about Allie at some point but for now, the Queen remains the Queen!

Good stuff David. Thanks for sharing! I'm thrilled that Allie, Azzi, and Blanca are overall shooting such a high %. I think someone said we are tops in the nation in 3 point %? If not tops, then near the top for sure...
  1. 46.7% - Allie
  2. 44.8% - Azzi
  3. 40.4% - Blanca
  4. 39.4% - Sarah
  5. 36.7% - Ash
  6. 34.5% - Kayleigh
  7. 34.1% - KK
  8. 13.3% - Caroline
  9. 0.00% - Kelis (she's 0-10)
The first half of last season, KK was really bad - like in the teens. She was much better the 2nd half and that's carried over to this season. Not a SINGLE core player shoots worse than 1 out of 3 in their attempts. Amazing!!

I don’t know about that. Azzi beat some guy name Steph and his little brother in a 3 point shooting contest last summer.

It’s impossible to judge without more information. Players are more accurate on catch-and-shoot threes than they are on threes taken after a dribble. And threes taken after one dribble are much more accurate than threes taken after a number of dribbles.

For example, the NBA charts this and has found the following:

  • average percent on catch-and-shoot threes: 41-43%.
  • average percent when shooting after one or two dribbles: 37–39%.
  • average percent when shooting after three or more dribbles: 35% or less, often much less.

Azzi does a better job using picks and screens to get an open shot......Allie is still a work in progress on that......Azzi has been quoted as saying that Allie is every bit the shooter that she is and I have never doubted that after watching her Allie's high school videos.......she has virtually unlimited range.........she has started to flourish after gaining confidence and getting more court time.......next season I would hope she will inherit the Azzi role.....

With all do respect, Steph Curry is the best 3-pt shooter ever. So if Azzi beat him, he was most definitely not seriously competing.

Stats are our friends! And select the right ones and you can make them say almost anything.

The greatest shooters and 3 point shooters in NCAA history, do not qualify for leader boards because their total shots in a game, a season, or a career are so low. 100% is easy if you only take a single shot and it goes in, take ten shots in a game and hit them all is much rarer, take 100 shots in a season and the highest percentages drops significantly, take 500 in a career and it drops further.
Simple example - 3 point percentage Game: Samuelson 10-10 100%, Season: Heather Donlan 50-87 57.5, Career: Alicia Ratay 262-550 47.6%

Agree - Uconn has a lot of great shooters. Disagree that Allie is our greatest - her sample size is too small. The NCAA stats qualifiers require 5 makes per game for overall, and 2 makes/game for 3 pointers - she doesn't qualify on either, just as no Uconn player qualifies for FT percentage (Azzi would lead the country .949, and Sarah would be in 10th at .909) Allie is 7 makes short of qualification for both stats but she would need to have much greater scoring pace to qualify as each games adds another 5 to the requirement for shot makes, and 2 for 3 point makes - the three point makes is probably easier to reach - if she averages 3 makes per game through game one of the conference tourny she would qualify - more likely than her making 6 shots per game in that period.

Azzi takes most of her shots against the starters of the opponent. As a team leader she seems to take slightly higher risk and more difficult shots than probably anyone else on the team. IMO, that is the result of confidence from a team elder. Not taking away from Allie’s accomplishments but she seems much more conservative in her shot selection. No question in my mind that Azzi is one of the best shooters in UCONN history( regardless of the stats).

At this moment Allie is better which stats show. But she is not really better. Azzi is looking to take a 3 under any circumstance, even if she is off, and even if she has an iota of space. So, as others have said, Allie hasn't taken enough shots. Also the point is Allie open a lot more and the defense is more inclined to leave her open imo.

Why do you people insist on hyping fine young players beyond their current level? She isn't even in the same league with Azzi. Azzi can created her own shots. Hit contested 3's. Come of screens in designed plays and knock down big shots in big moments of NCAA tournament games.

To date: Allie proven can make the occasional wide open 3 and opportunistically drive to basket. She does have the pleasant tendency to be much more likely to hit subsequent 3's after making the first one. And the team she did it against was inept defensively.

I sincerely believe Allie is going to have her day (likely as a KML that can also drive to the hoop), but she is not there yet.

I agree... Im confident Allie will begin to create her own shots rather than be a spot up shooter. I would love to see Allie dribble then ball, fake left and drive to the right and bam, a jump shot, a quick one. She looks loke she has the goods to do it, but that would elevate her game so much. I love her effort on defense and driving to the basket.

You're obviously new here to BB nirvana where every player is viewed as a potential AA and they are all expected to be majically better every year. Plus every team is virtually unbeatable. 😉 😎

Allie’s two point shots are mostly layups, I believe, thus her shooting percentage for them should be higher.

I've really enjoyed watching Allie all year, and her recent explosion offered a nice story line during a cold February.

It's also great for perspective about our bench. With this deep team, there is plenty of talent that doesn't get big time minutes YET, but can really play if given a chance.

Had Blanca and Sarah not missed games, Allie would still not have had big minutes and we would not know what we are missing.

I think Kelis "gup" Fisher is similar. In her very limited playing time, she shows great speed, defense and slashing to the basket. Unfortunately for her she sits as a freshman behind KK, Ash, K9, and Blanca/Allie on this '26 team and just is not going to play much. If Kelis suddenly has a string of 25min big east games, I think we would all be pleasantly surprised.

All in it's a nice problem to have. Allie and K9 getting valuable minutes now to be ready this March...and a deep bench for upcoming years.

If Allie was the better shooter, she would have taken the 325 shots Azzi has taken, not the 125 she has.

I too believe Kelis will shine before it’s all over. However, it is clear, she needs some seasoning before that happens. This offseason, hopefully she will spend much of it in the gym working on that three point shot and decision making on the floor. If she can get her percentage up to at least KK’s level, she will be a weapon next year. She is so fast! Last game I watched her just burn past everyone to the basket! The other player looked like she was running through sand!
