Well we've been waiting for this show to begin. Bigger and better then last season with depth. Wow. How many will UConn win by. Well there is no question UConn will win and win big. This could get ugly fast. Yes I do expect rust, and the underclassman need to gain experience and I think they see alot of time in todays nationally televised game which will make non UConn fans sick, because this seasons version of the UConn Huskies is better then last years team and there is no other team that is that much better then their previously seasons team.

Beat your Best. This season UConn has beaten their best which was what they did in the past season. They never seem to get worse always seem to get better. Stanford a top team season after season could find out really quick what this UConn team can do. The WCBB nation will be watching. Ive called this team a well oiled machine for many years. This season is no different. It will take time for our non starters to adjust to real time game conditions and we will see glimpses of that today. This team is well oiled too however with our transfers and freshman we have the potential to be a well oiled unstoppable steamroller. We will only get better and much much better as the season progresses and our new rostered players become part of the team chemistry and team continuity. When that happens its going to be unbelievable. Until then it will be a work in progress.

IMO theres a reason Ohio St declined playing UConn and we will see that answer today. Today could be a huge blowout with our non starters seeing alot of playtime. We will see how long it takes before Geno pulls back a little. Hey Im not knocking Stanford they have a really good program and have for many years however this is UConn at its best with 3 first team AA's and maybe more. This is a team that lost a game they shouldve won last season. This is a monster team that has more talent then and options then any team Geno has coached.

I expect to see signs of total domination today. I expect ups and downs because of rust and inexperienced transfers and underclassman. This is not about how much UConn will win by today, this is the first step under big game conditions to prepare this team and see what this team has and needs to improve on to get ready for March. Don be concerned. UConn will not lose. Once again barring injuries we will be just fine. Foul trouble this season could hurt us but not like it couldve hurt us last season because we have non starters who can come in. Our schedule the first half of this season is Murders Row. However UConn has a lineup stronger then the old Yankee dynastys with Ruth and Gerhig . UConn 96 Stanford 59

Love the thoughts, Tony. I'm of 2 minds about tOSU's beat down of Stanford. On one hand, it was a sense of relief, of course, that UConn's opponent isn't as fearsome as advertised. On the other, I was hoping for an epic match-up today, which it now won't be. So, after what tOSU did Friday, if it does become a beat-down today, it won't prove much. And if it isn't a beat-down, it won't be as satisfying. Still, it is the beginning of the season, and that's all that really matters.

You make some excellent points Tonyc. I've coined this team "The UConn Express". Because of their proclivity to score (especially off turnovers and fast breaks), and play their game at a fast, almost exhaustive pace. In another thread, I predicted that Stanford would be down by 20 points BEFORE the end of the first quarter, we'll see.

VanDerveer always has her team ready to play UConn which is usually their biggest game of the year for them (or anybody else). Based on what we saw of them Friday against Ohio State, this does not appear to be one of her better teams. They only had one player score in double figures, and they could not stop (or slow down) the Buckeyes on the defensive end of the court either.

The Buckeyes exposed a lot of Stanford's deficiencies that need to be "fixed". One day will not be enough time to do so. Like you, I also expect to see signs of total domination today. UConn opens he season with a resounding victory today, getting a little redemption for that 2014 loss. UConn 95 - Stanford 61

Certainly, Tara will coach her team up, and the Cardinal will be much better by the end of the season, but it is clear they miss McCall, Roberson and the “rebounding Samuelson.”

Stanford’s defense, rebounding and shooting vs tOSU were awful. I too was hoping for a better opening test for the Huskies.

So my expectations are little more reserved. We have to work in some new pieces and we will Saniya's steadying hand. She had an outstanding senior campaign.

I'm not worried about it but I think we are about a month away from Tony's vision.

And, of course, let me add...

By the end of the season Tara will have her TREES performing at a higher level but right now they look lost at times!
UCONN even though it's their 1st game has too many great athletes that gained some early team work between the Italy trip and the 2 exhibitions for Stanford to stop!

Hey RSHERMVIKES - AGREE wholeheartedly. The key point that you made (that some have overlooked) is that UConn had the Italy trip and several games against big time competition--losing in fact the last game in Italy to a world class team. I know those summer trips are limited so it is quite an advantage. UConn has a head start on cleaning out the cobwebs and getting in sync. IMHO November and December will be UConn fine-tuning faster than usual. Of course, we has 4 starters back with a 5th starter like Danger.
Geno is more of a softee so subs will come in sooner than usual. That's my take.

A little overshoot on he score, but it could have been whatever Geno wanted it to be.

Well done Tony. I should know better than to doubt you.
