I remember when it was called Fraternity Rock because it sat across the street from the Frats.

If I recall correctly, the Student Union Government assigned slots' for variosu group sto be able to paint it. For exmaple, Club A got to paint it at 10 PM one night and no other group was allowed to touch it until 3 days later at 10 PM or something like that. Kept students from camping-out at the rock to protect it and also avoided the occasional fight.
