OT: UConn softball #6 on Sportscenter Top 10

Nice play. UConn Softball failed to make the NCAA tournament. UConn was the best team in the Big East all season (20-4) but came up short in the BET to Villanova (once again). UConn didn't do enough in its non-conference schedule to convince the committee that they belonged in the tournament.

Great season (38-17) but next season they need to finish the job by winning the BET. The Committee doesn't seem inclined to pick 2 BE teams.

Congrats to the softball team on a very good season. Laura and staff have done a great job in a short period of time.
I feel for them not being able to enjoy a taste of the NCAA tourney. Thought 38-18 and a #56 RPI would have got them in.
Obviously Nova RPI @ #92 gets the nod @ 31-22 with the BE tourney win.
Hope Prairie View RPI @286 finishing the season @ 20-28 gives Oklahoma all they can handle and more.

Such is the nature of the NCAA softball world. It's hard for teams from the north east to get any attention from a sport that is very much seen as a west coast and south/south east focused endeavor. Without any signature out of conference wins and no conference titles, no one making the decisions as to who will be in the field will notice.

OT on this OT: The UConn baseball team just won the regular season title. I hope they have done enough OOC to get an at-large bid if they stumble in the BE tourney. Baseball experts....have they done so?

Massey has UConn with a Power Ranking at 79 with a SOS of`146. Earlier this season I read somewhere that UConn Softball had played only one top 25 team. The only way UConn was going to make the tournament was to win the Big East Tournament. BTW, Nova had a Power Ranking of 103 with a SOS of 156. Massey Ratings - College Softball : NCAA D1 Ratings

UConn had a 18-14 Out of Conference Won Loss Record. They had a 20-4 Big East Record. Didn't win many games against teams that ended up making the tournament.

Maybe? If they win out the rest of the regular season, I like their chances but nothing is guaranteed.

She is. BE 2022 Coaching Staff of the year. Valentino inherited a program that hadn't had a winning season in 9 years and in her 3rd season won the BE regular season and won 38 games. She's just getting started.

I just came across this story about a softball recruit Haley Coupal coming next year. She's a 4-year starter hitting .571. I liked this part: " Coach Milot considers Coupal along with 2018 grad Julia DaCosta, who went on to a four-year playing career at Villanova, the best two players he has coached."
