That's up eight spots from where we were before today, and suddenly we're 28 in defensive efficiency and 32 in offensive efficiency. I know 32 is an extremely arbitrary number, but only nine other teams in the country - Syracuse, Iowa, Villanova, Kansas, Louisville, Florida, Michigan State, Wichita State and Pittsburgh - are top 32 in both categories.

I know USF is a bad team, but they've beaten SMU and given Cincinnati all they wanted within the last two weeks alone, and we basically made them look like a D-3 team tonight. The game was over by the first TV timeout and the final margin could have been a lot worse if we hadn't pulled our starters with 12 minutes to go. That's a stark contrast from earlier in the year when we were struggling to distance ourselves from teams like Loyola Maryland, Yale, and BC.

This team is getting better with seemingly every game, and not only does that speak well of our prospects of making a deep run, but it reflects positively on Ollie as a coach. This team is very close to figuring it out and becoming a legitimate contender. Can't wait for Saturday.

Great post. KO is doing work. Very excited about our prospects. Brimah and Nolan are solidifying the post and Kromah is becoming a serious problem, that moves us to a whole other level.

Kromah made some wickedly sick passes for assists tonight. He has become our X factor.

This team isn't near as good if kromah Isn't here, brimah and nolan coming along nicly, and hopefully we see more productivity out of facey and Samuels and they continue to progress as tourney time approaches to add that depth we need to rest our starters.

Now if Omar just finds himself and his game will be set for a run.

We dropped back to 22 (one place) after the win. And our efficiencies dropped a bit: down to 32 offense and 31 defense. We also dropped Memphis down to 34 total.

This is the problem when the efficiency rankings are based on cumulative stats. Is there any way he weighs the efficiency performances by the opponents quality? I know it not a perfect system and I don't have suggestions to better the system - this guy is obviously more intelligent in things of this nature than I am. That said, efficiently whooping USF and moving up 8 spots and inefficiently beating an infinitely better Memphis team and dropping in his rankings? That is absurd.

I don't think we efficiently beat Memphis, which is the point.

I do think he weighs it on the competition (i.e. a great performance against a great defense helps you more than a great performance against a mediocre defence). He said, for instance, that pretty much the sole reason Creighton is as high in his rankings as they are is that they performed insanely against Villanova's defense, which is currently ranked 21, but I think was higher before that.

I agreed that the performance today was inefficient, I think you misread. Interesting fact about Creighton. In hindsight it was stupid of me to think it wasn't weighted on the competition. Classic example of think before you post.

Understood. I almost editted it to note that I agreed with your basic point. I'd take an inefficient win over a highly regarded team over an efficient drubbing of a sh¡tty team.

After last night, our defense is now in the Top 20 (20, to be exact). But the game dropped our offense to 33.

Frankly, that's because, starting before the 8 minute mark we took the air out of the ball and got bad shots on almost every possession for the remainder of the game. Not sure why we did that. Respect for Dunphy?
