Incarnate Word won 59-33 to take the Visitation Christmas tournament title tonight.

Napheesa Collier finished with 31 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 blocks, and 3 steals.

Napheesa...wow!
She seems to be a solid free throw shooter....is that correct?
Our front court next year will be deep and way talented.

She is a natural wing, not a post. If you consider the three part of the front court, then I apologize.

She struggled shooting free throws last year at around 68% as she had a bit of a hitch in her motion. By the time she was playing for team USA in the summer that hitch was gone. Currently, she's at 88% for the year.

Collier had 41 in the first game of that tourney back on Dec 20 but the other stats have never been listed. But according to Carl Adamec, Collier had 20 rebounds and 13 steals in that game too.

This season Collier is the only senior on her team’s roster. Through seven games for Incarnate Word (5-2), she is averaging 29.4 points, shooting approximately 70 percent from the floor and 90 percent from the foul line, and 13.3 rebounds.

Who does she think she is--Kaleena Lewis? :)

Crystal Dangerfield had 11 points and 5 assists in a Blackman 70-60 win Monday night.

The full boxscore is now up for Incarnate Word's Sunday game.

Collier had 31 as originally reported, not 32. She was 10-12 from the field and also 10-12 from the foul line.

Also, the box from Dec 20 is now filled in. That was Collier's 41-pt game. She had 20 rebounds, 8 blocks, 13 steals, and 4 assists as well. Those are not typos. She was 16-19 from the field and 9-9 from the line.

Her stats rival those of that other kid from Jefferson City. You know--the one known as the Invincible Queen.

31 points on 12 FGAs is unbelievably good.

Her efficiency is incredible. For the year she has scored 205 points on 100 FG attempts. It helps to shoot 74% and average nearly 8 made FT's a game.
Amazing. Geno loves her. We will too.

Not sure if she can be considered "under the radar", but you and I chatted about her last night. She didn't play on the U17 team, but rather the U18 team.

On a team that featured Aja Wilson, Brianna Turner, Jessica Shephard (Nebraska), B. Mompremier (Baylor), Destinee Walker (UNC), Marina Mabrey (ND), Ariel Atkins (Texas), Recee Caldwell (UCLA) and a few others, she was the 2nd leading scorer on the team, 1st in rebounding, 1st in 3 point FG%, 4th in assists, and 3rd in steals. Much of the team is a year ahead of her, but Shephard, Mompremier, Mabrey and Walker are in her class. Still, she played better than any kid in her class and was about as good as Wilson and Turner - the top 2 kids in the class ahead of her.

That should tell you something about how special this kid is.

Oh, and Shephard and Mompremier played really well also. And Walker and Mabrey were right behind them. I think the class of 2015 is really really strong.

Yeah, when I saw who her teammates were, I was blown away. She's following in Maya's and Stewie's footsteps. This may be a slight exaggeration, but getting Napheesa and Lou in the same class is almost like getting Maya Moore and Elena Delle Donne together. :)

I've been telling TonyC all along that I believe that Napheesa Collier will be the best in her class. While Katie Lou has been getting a lot of the ink and the accolades...Naphessa has been quietly doing her thing. And, I agree in concept with the poster above with regards to getting two top players...but, Maya and EDD is stretching it...I think a better comparison is Stewie (Kati Lou) and Moriah (Naphessa), albeit Stewie and Moriah are represented as a 4 and a 1...while Samuelson and Collier will probably be a 3 and a 4...the comparison is valid based on how valuable they will be to their team.

Crystal Dangerfield scored just 6 points in a 58-24 win for Blackman Tuesday.

Yes...on the surface that mean something...but, it begs the questions...how many minutes did she play? How many assists / steals / turnovers did she get? What was her shooting percentage? Sometimes players contribute in other valuable ways besides scoring points.

De'Janae Boykin attended the ECU game today (Dec 31):

She’s off to a solid start for her C.H. Flowers High team, but is playing in pain. She had a brace on her right wrist Wednesday.

“The season is going well, in conference play we’re undefeated,” Boykin said. “Me? My right wrist is sprained but it’s fine. I don’t think about it when I have to dive on the floor for a loose ball. It hurts a little when I shoot, but I’m fine. I’m just going to do whatever I can to help my team out. I’ve had to rely on my left hand a lot more than my right and maybe that will help me in the future.”

Did DJB miss a game this week? I think I saw a box in the WaPo that didn't list her. Flowers led 31-18 at the half and lost by 4.

Yeah, she shot some FTs left-handed when I saw her. Both missed rather badly.

What about adding Andra Espinoza-Hunter stats and to see how's she's doing now that she's a Uconn Huskie

I have looked and can't find any stats or really any news on Hunter. It was hard to find updates or stats on Sadie Edwards when she was at Blair too. I'm sure if anyone stumbles across news they'll post it.

One thing I read on her, and i can't find the link, came from Hoopgurlz. AT one point they had her in their top 5 but she performed poorly for an extended period of time and they dropped her from their top 25. Possibly it had to do with her changing schools, etc, i'm not sure, but that's what I read. But that doesn't answer your question on stats. I'm sure some will turn up sooner or later since she's playing games!

Napheesa Collier had a huge game again Saturday (1/3) and provided a few laughs as well.

33 points, 17 rebounds, 7 blocks; complete stats will be up later

Napheesa Collier is not perfect.

Even the mult-talented Incarnate Word Academy senior can make a mistake now and then.

Collier tossed up an air-ball midway through the fourth quarter of the Red Knights' 45-34 win over Lee Summit West on Saturday afternoon
.

...

The University of Connecticut signee is used to big performances. However, she is not used to throwing up an air ball.

The missed shot, which came with 4 minutes, 51 seconds left in the fourth period and the game well in hand, brought some comic relief among her teammates.

As the ball sailed helplessly out of bounds under the basket, Collier flashed a stunned look toward her bench.

"She just said, "oops," and we kind of laughed," junior forward Abbey Hoff said.

Actually, there was a method to Collier's bombs-away effort.

"I saw one of their girls coming at me and I was sure she was going to foul me," Collier recalled. "So, I just threw it up there, but she went by and didn't touch me.

The embarrassing part was that it missed by so much."

...

The miss was about the lone mistake Collier made on the afternoon. She hit on 10 of 12 shots and helped key a defense that threw a blanket over the high-scoring Titans. Lee's Summit made just two field goals in each of the first and third quarters.
