Prospect Nation's report on KLS's performance from Thursday:

Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Mater Dei HS – 2015

A year ago, Samuelson made her mark here on day two of the event. This year, it only took her one game. The 6-foot-3 wing has become of one the country’s premier all-around prospects. A Connecticut signee, Samuelson went bananas in the opening round contest against Skyline High School out of Dallas, Texas, finishing with a Mater Dei record 41 points. In the process, the five-star senior also set another record with 10 3-point shots made. The scary part for whoever else stands in Samuelson’s way this weekend is that she could have easily finished with another two or three made after seeing a couple roll off the rim. Samuelson has long been considered by our staff as the nation’s No. 1 wing prospect in the senior class and this showing did nothing but show the basketball community why we hold Samuelson’s overall skill set in such high regard.

Lou reminds me of a certain player from Delaware. Very tall and a world-class shooter. Definitely Olympic potential.

Shepard looked good. She is about Lou's height and looks about 50-75 lbs heavier. Lou couldn't budge her - but COULD go around her. Lou will need to bulk up a little, especially upper body. In the pic below Shepard is behind Lou, with hands on Lou's waist (bad pic, but it's the only one I got of Shepard).

Dangerfield's Blackman team played Desert Vista today, our local public high school in my neighborhood, and a perennial Phoenix sports powerhouse. Blackman beat them handily. The main thing that impressed me about Danger is her size. If MoJett is a 7th grader, then Crystal is a 4th grader. Seriously small. But fast, VERY fast!

Maybe. I think it was more like the "Shepard sandwich" defense. She was much bigger than anyone on Mater Dei, and just bulled her way through people to the hoop. She was so much bigger and stronger I don't think they called fouls on the defenders just 'cause there was nothing they could do. Except deny her the ball, which is what that hokey pokey routine was all about.

UConn bound and top 2015 performer Katie Lou Samuelson did her part to make sure the Monarchs capitalized on the opportunity by pouring in 41 points. On her way to that total Samuelson knocked down 10 threes leading the way to a 67 – 34 win and a match up with Fremont (Fremont, Neb.) in round two.


Crystal Dangerfield offered up an eye opening performance for the crowd as well as the Hamilton defense. The 5-6 early UConn commit scored effectively both from the perimeter and off the drive.

When you watch a player as long as we’ve had the chance to watch De’Janae Boykin of Charles Flowers you sometimes begin to overlook just talented they just might be. The UConn bound 6-2 forward has stood out in high school, club and international basketball and reminded us again just why she’s among the elite in the class. Appearing to now enjoy the strength that comes with physical maturation, Boykin is a challenging match up defensively. While she plays within the framework of Flowers offense she still, on occasion, will simply take it herself and create her own looks with authority. On one possession she went coast to coast weaving thorough traffic and getting to the rim without any defender having a prayer of contesting her attack. She works efficiently from the elbow both off the dribble or distributing the ball. While clearly the dominant offensive weapon she picks her spots but shows an understanding of when it’s time to step up and take over. She also demonstrated some of the perimeter consistency will be a critical element for her moving forward in her career.

Astute comment Milford- the ball just attaches to either hand- she doesn't even think about catching a pass or rebound- gabby is beginning to look like she has great Hands also- the more we are able to see her.
 
Getting a bit off topic- but looking ahead a bit- Mo, Nurse, Stewie, Tuck, and then with Gabby adding three more thorobreds next year, and then Dangerfield taking over for Mo Jeff, with a full stable of unbelievable talent and athleticism and veteran maturity of Tuck Butler and Nurse & Gabby. This is looking to be like a continuos string of teams with the right Mix of veteran and young talent.

Blackman wins 79-68 to advance to the championship game. No official recap yet but Clay Kallam has Dangerfield with 14 points and 15+ assists.
 
Mater Dei survives a tough test 60-53 to set up a KLS/Dangerfield matchup in Monday's final. No word on Samuelson's numbers but she was apparently denied the ball pretty well.
 
Incarnate Word slipped by their opponent 86-18 on Saturday. Napheesa Collier scored 25 in the first quarter on her way to 41 for the game. Most other stats are not available yet, but she did go 9-9 from the foul line and has made 93.5% of her foul shots on the year.

In addition to her 34 points, Johnson also grabbed nine rebounds for Blackman. Jazz Bond added 16 points and 15 rebounds for Blackman, but it was Dangerfield who directed the victory. The electrifying Connecticut recruit played in another gear, racing by St. Mary's defenders on her way to scoring 14 points and dishing out 13 assists. As Dangerfield froze the defenders, Johnson delivered again and again and again.

KLS struggled from the field last night going 5-19, 2-8 from three. She did hit 9 free throws and grab 8 rebounds.
 
Johnson could be a very good player for MTSU.

Lou had "only"21, so she's averaging 32.7 ppg for the tourney.

Napheesa had 25 in a quarter. Yikes! And she's shooting almost 94% on FTs. Double yikes!
 
At Nike TOC. Blackman (Dangerfield) getting ready to play Mater Dei (KLS). Stockton St. Mary's, who Blackman beat 79-68 in the semis, just pounded Parkview, who KLS struggled against in the semis, 85-65 in the 3rd place game.

Don't see any UCONN coaches.
 
Mater Dei up 32-20 at the half. Lou shooting the lights out - has about 22 of the 32 by my unofficial count. To add insult to injury, Mater Dei PG Andee Valesco sank a longer-than-half-court 3 as time expired in the half. Sometimes it's just your day.
