Anyone with eyeballs knows this is just blatantly not true, right? You can tell when Gampel actually has 7500 people for a November game against a UNH type of team, there is no shot that Gampel had less than 9500 people in it yesterday. Mike is getting dragged for this, but whoever gave him that number (it likely doesn't include 2500 students?) did him dirty

Agreed. 9500 hundred? Ok. 7500? Can't see it
Mike Anthony refuses to answer if that number includes students too lol. He knows it's incorrect but he keeps doubling down. Also, he says that the attendance for the SHU game was close to 50%...HUH?

There were plenty of empty seats. Didn't seem like 2500 empty seats though. Looked more like 9000 to me. Per usual the lower bowl folks manage to not make it to the games.

What a garbage article - it’s like he’s trying to write hit pieces.

Beat writers should be at the game, actually having the stupidity to say 7,608 were in the building is asinine. The place was sold out you could clearly tell. Do your job.

I genuinely don’t think he asked if all students have scanned tickets. Years passed they would just send them in with an ID as recent as the Houston game. So 7k scanned tickets with a couple thousand students let in makes sense. But not being in attendance and trying to call readers stupid is peak CT sports media.

UConn facebook and twitter say the game was sold out. And there is video that show almost zero empty seats.

I was there, sitting in basically the worst seats in the house. There were hardly any empty seats in my section. Felt like the place was almost totally full.

Also ‘tickets scanned’ doesn’t include any students who are overflow. Because by definition those students don’t have tickets.

If there were 500 empty seats I would be surprised Didnt look like that to me and I scanned the full arena 10 minutes into the game
I think there is something wrong with the ticket scanners or UConn comped 3000 tickets

Refusal to say that maybe he was given wrong information tells you all you need to know about the Hearst family of "journalists"

Then he's a moron and nobody should read anything he writes

Used to be newspapers had editors and there was some expectation of a sanity check of content put out by the paper. No more.

I was there too and for 2500 empty seats to be true, one of the end zones would have had to be almost completely without fans if you put all the empty seats together. Anyone with eyes can see that wasn’t true. Anthony needs to do his job better rather than mailing it in
