I went out to a game vs UCSD last year. Very family, i.e., lots of the players families in the house. If you are in SD or SoCal, highly recommend

After the San Diego State weekend series. UConn has a game in the midweek against UMass in the home opener. Assuming the 4 pitchers mentioned above do get the starting assignments in the San Diego State series, I would guess that Tom Ellisen (who replaced a hurting Stephen Quigley as a starter in the Hawaii series) is probably most likely to get the midweek start against UMass. After the next weekend series against Rutgers, UConn currently has scheduled 2 midweek games 4 out of 5 weeks. Of course, after this weekends 4 game set with San Diego State, UConn will be back to playing 3 game weekend sets. So which ever 1 of the 4 pitchers slated to go this weekend doesn't make the weekend rotation cut, I would guess that they would join Tom Ellisen as one of the 2 midweek starters, unless one or more of the weekend starters get hurt or need to be replaced at some point. I would prefer Ellisen and whoever getting work as midweek starters rather than going with staff days during the midweek, but we'll see what happens. I would think there would still be plenty of work for guys coming out of the bullpen.

Top 1st, Freeberger hits a 1 out double. After a strikeout, Freeberger advanced to 3rd on a silly throwing error by the pitcher. Studley walks to extend the inning, giving Broadhurst a chance to shine. Broadhurst flies out to left to end the inning 0-0. Need some quality innings by Cooke.

Top 1st, Freeberger with a 1 out double, UConn offense leaves runners on the corners. No score.

Bottom 1st, Cooke gives up a solo leadoff homer, 1-0 SDSU. SDSU had a base stealer called out due to batter's interference as Cooke faces 3 batters after the homer.

Leadoff home run for SDSU. Not a good start, our lack of a shutdown pitcher is a concern.

No damage after the home run. Let's hit the ball and put up a crooked number!

Offense is on snooze. At least it's not a strikeout barrage?

SDSU has the exact same pitching depth and defensive issues that FAU, Hawaii, OSU etc had. This could be another series where we start mediocre and get hot as the series go on. If we want to avoid a slow start, Cooke needs to pitch like he did last year.

Cooke throws a scoreless inning. Still 1-0 SDSU going to the third. I would sign up for 6 innings of 2 run ball.

Bottom 3rd, Cooke gives up another solo leadoff homer to tie the game at 2.

Cooke immediately gives up a solo bomb to a team that is not very good offensively. The lack of walks is a good thing but everything else has been rough.
