Chris Jones talking about T.C. Simmons saying he may be available for the Big East tournament, or maybe even the Seton Hall series. We'll see what happens with him.

A walk, then a strikeout ends the inning. 6-2 UConn going to the top of the 5th.
 
Top 5th, UConn loads the bases with no out. Brown gets hit by a pitch to bring in a run. 7-2 with the bases still loaded and no out. Two no out walks brings in two more runs, a run scores on a ground out for the first out to make it 10-2.

I really and truly appreciate the above and beyond machinations that Chris Jones undertakes to get us the audio for games but cripes - can Mixlr be any more painful w/ the cutting in and out than today (I know it’s out of his control so it’s not a CJ criticism).
 
Crawford drives in a run with a bases loaded sac fly to make it 11-2. Ferrer gets thrown out trying to advance on the bases to end the inning.

Chris Jones said that some of these guys such as Lucas and Mayock have thrown batting practice/scrimmage during the midweek in Storrs. Apparently, they have not done well. Practice matters.
 
With the 9 run lead, Devenney is now catching in place of Pat Winkel.

Willis comes out of it with a scoreless inning. 11-2 UConn going to the top of the 6th.

With the 9 run lead, Chris Jones thinking some lesser used pitchers could get some time on the mound.

Stock's homer puts us up 10 and heads URI towards a merciful mercy rule exit.

I think we've seen today the recipe for the post season for games 4 and 5 in a four team, double elimination tourney. Get 4 innings out of whomever you can, and have your five bullpen arms: Wurster, Marrerro, Haus, Willis and Polonia ready to take it from there. Obviously, based on the 3 games prior to that it may not be 1 inning each, but that's a lot of bullpen innings for games 4 and 5 if we can get, say, 19 our of 27 between Peterson, Casparius and Gallagher.

I think the mercy rule doesn't apply to this midweek game, we'll see when we get to the 7th inning if this is correct. Big East conference games have the mercy rule.

If we don't, can we see relievers other than the big 5, with a 12 run lead?
 
Bottom 6th, Garrett Coe starts the inning on the mound. Langer in at 3B.

Coe faces the minimum with the help of a double play, comes up with a strikeout as well.

Chris Jones doesn't think the mercy rule applies to this game, but we'll see. He's hoping for pitchers like McBride, Lucas and Mayock to get some mound time today.

Three innings left, if there are -- I vote Lucas, McBride and Dunlop.
 
Top 7th, Crawford with an RBI single, 15-2 UConn.

McBride in to pitch the bottom of the 7th.

Two runs score off of McBride, Sam Favieri comes in to get the final out.

Chris Jones says Lucas and Dunlop were playing catch in the bullpen.

We have been hearing for years how good Simeone has looked in practice and how has that worked out during live games. Lucas has seemed to always pitch well during his live game opportunities. As someone once said, "Practice, we're talking about practice".

McBride just seem like he's ready for big time yet. Doesn't have good control. Dunlop with another less than stellar performance. Once again, no Lucas. Starting to fall into line with another guy, Sam Nepiarsky who I always thought had very good stuff, pitched well when he got his opportunities but for some reason never was really ever given a chance.
