Remember when 1 sports writer said UConn would probably never have a lottery pick again? May have been from ESPN..

His first paragraph is so terribly misguided I don't know where to start. Deficit of talent over the last five years? Maybe as compared to Kentucky, but other than that... c'mon. If his premise is that it's impressive that Ollie continues to recruit successfully in a watered down league post-JC, I'll buy that. But to say that we've underperformed because we've lacked talent is not accurate.

UConn has had 3 lottery picks in the last two drafts -- Kemba, Drummond and Jeremy Lamb. They have another currently on roster (DeAndre Daniels), as well as an All-America candidate in Shabazz Napier. Drummond was either the #1 or #2 recruit in the nation when he committed.

Omar Calhoun is certainly no slouch either, he was NY's HS player of the year last year and named to the Big East All Rookie Team.

Going back five years -- as Brennan suggests -- leads us to 2008. In the 2008-2009 season the Huskies made the final four with Hasheem Thabeet, AJ Price, Jeff Adrien, Kemba Walker, Jerome Dyson and Stanley Robinson, all of whom have made appearances in the League.

It's also well and good to overlook the fact that the 2011 team went undefeated in non-conference play (23-0) and a perfect 14-0 when it counted, in elimination games. Not too shabby.

But yea, whatever it takes to write an article.

Eamon Brennan has always seemed like a smug jackass to me but if his basic premise is that UConn teams of the past few seasons have been a step below vintage UConn teams that doesn't seem too objectionable to me. That '04 team would have bent the '11 team over. There have been rotation guys and even starters who would have had to buy courtside seats to get on the floor ten years ago.

I usually find that Eamon Brennan is anti-uconn, though this article clearly isn't. Over the past few years I've found that if you want to find an ESPN article not bashing or unfairly characterizing the huskies you have to make sure its a Jay Bilas or (sometimes) Andy Katz article.

Holy wow that's stupid. Beyond the reports of our death being greatly exaggerated, there are a lot of mediocre players selected in the first rounds of NBA drafts...

I chuckled at that part of the article. I mean ! this is UCONN we`re talking about. this program WILL NEVER go back to the level it was at pre calhoun and this idiot seems to be suggesting that very thing. The sad part is a lot of people echoed his sentiment when it looked like the clock was ticking on coach calhoun. One guy whom ill never forget is mike fatsessa. He said after calhoun "uconn will be irrelevent". I thought he was crazy then and its looking like he and everyone like him is going to be wrong. BIGTIME! Ollie is for real and he is only going to get better and better. I fully believe our challenging for a national title days are not behind us.

The media is so fickle. Brennan has spent the last year burying UConn but now they get 1 good recruit and all is rosy? It's why I don't even read most of this stuff. Brennan can go suck it!
