The Nebraska game at Gampel is when we realized we had a future superstar on our hands. He almost single-handedly won that game.
 
Think the answer is easily Jeremy Lamb. He pretty much no showed all of Maui and it took the December cupcake games for him to feel like he belonged.

By the tournament he looked like a future NBA player. Not sure if anyone else went from looking out of place to an NBA guy more in the span of a season.

Vital was never ever a stud. He just was on a bad team and got to shoot it constantly.. In the AAC

Vital would absolutely not have been a starter on this team nor 23 or 24.

You mustn’t remember the last half of his senior year.

He carried that team, was super efficient and shot super well from 3 and the line. I won’t argue starting over who when but you are not remembering how good he was at the end of his senior year.

Did vital do something personal to you?
 
I always thought the worst thing about the 2020 season getting cancelled (in regards to UConn basketball) was Vital not getting his shot to lead us to a conference tournament win and birth in the NCAAs. I was at the Houston game in Gampel just before the season got cancelled, and thought the way he was shooting there was no way he wasn't going to carry us all the way there. I was so excited to see if he and the boys could pull it off (remember we had 8 healthy scholarship players and were only playing 7, making the feat even harder) but unfortunately we never got the chance to find out.

I think if he had gotten the chance and pulled it off he's remembered even more fondly by even more of the fan base. We had been in basketball wasteland for so long at that point that even getting a taste of the tourney again would have felt great and he would have gotten the majority of the credit for getting us there as the senior leader. I always loved how committed he seemed when Hurley got here too, I remember seeing him at the introductory press conference and he looked so excited to get to work. I felt he was deserving of being remembered as a special Husky and a run like that probably puts him there in a lot of hearts/minds.

In the G League? - (he left after his junior year).
 
I think I have the answer.

Isaiah Whaley '19-'20.

He was getting 10 minutes a game to start the year, doing nothing. In the Xavier MTE OT game, he had 12 minutes, 0 points, 1 rebound, 2 turnovers, 5 fouls.

He averaged 11.3 minutes and 2.8 points per game in November, 12.5 minutes and 2.5 points in December.

By the end of the year he was starting, putting up 18 and 14, 18 and 11, etc. Over the last 6 games, he averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game on basically 60% from the floor. He was dishing out dimes to shooters in the corner. It was wild.
