UConn opposes bill to regulate scholarships...

Unless you're self-employed I trust you have a better agreement with your employer when you have an illness or injury and take off work.

Apples and Oranges comparison...CT is an At Will State where all non-union employees may be terminated at any time just as they can leave their employer at any time. The employee and employer agree to a benefits package within the scope of employment and the employer presumably has insurance for WC claims, STD, LTD and D&D. If the employee acts in such a manner that it affects their productivity (late to work, unreasonable sick day claims), the employer is well within their rights to release the employee.

Thought about along these lines, the 1 year renewable scholarship seems like a pretty good deal for the student athlete.

If continual injuries prevent a student athlete from competing and fulfilling their obligation under the scholarship agreement, the school should not be liable to the student athlete.

I can buy into this for a player suffering an injury or illness. A coach's decision (ie cut from a team) is way over the top. Academic scholarships mandate the student to maintain a certain GPA. Why should athletes be any different and not held to athletic standards?

I don't know a lot of the details to this bill but one comment I read was from one of the bill's authors who said 'this bill is targeted at UConn'. That in itself told me this is a piece of BS by politicians looking for publicity while trying to hurt the school's athletic department.

Seems odd that a state politician should support something that could only hurt the flagship state university in favor of kids who mostly come from OOS.

Are they trying to build a case against UConn?

Get out the tin foil... but is there some in the state that would push us back to FCS or less?
