UConn officially in Fenway Bowl v UNC

Am I the only one bothered by referring to us as a "Group of 5" school? The G5 refers to 5 conferences: AAC, CUSA, MAC MWC & the Sun Belt - UConn is not in one of these conferences - just call us an independent.
It's what we are though. Our last conference was G5, and though we may be independent we are not like ND whose independence is treated more like P4 whereas we and UMass are solidly G5 level. Eventually that G5 should be amended to G6 to include the faux PAC. Unless we get a P4 invite, we will by default be lumped with the other G5s.

Speaking of Army, there is one team that will be playing with their full complement. Even if they could opt out, not a single one would let their teammates down.

Give me a break. If then I owe money in a better opportunity came along they'd be gone in a heartbeat if they were allowed to.

I think you might be. The G5 refers to any team not in the P5 P4.

With all the talk centered around portal, NIL, recruiting and even PE interest, here’s hoping the team has used the time well, is readying for the game, and most of all enjoying the fruits (technically a vegetable for this game) of their labor. This was a fun team to watch.

It will not.
Because our chances are already so good that there is no way to enhance them?

Weather will be a factor tomorrow. We'll see if the QB's for either team can put the ball in the air under cool and windy conditions. Tar Heels aren't gonna like it. :(

North Carolina ain't exactly tropical haven't their winters recently been worse then the northeast.

-> While UConn is excited about playing a postseason game, do the Tar Heels feel the same after a disappointing regular season and seeing their coach dismissed? If the Huskies can get an early jump, could it carry them over the rest of the way?
Mora is focused on his team.

"You always like to start fast and you want to create doubt," Mora said. "I don't know what their mindset is. But if I assume, they just hired Bill Belichick and they're all auditioning for one of the greatest football coaches of all time. So I would be hard-pressed to think that if we get on them quick that they're going to slump. Those guys are fighting to impress a Hall of Fame coach and they know he's watching everything. They know if they relent even a little bit they probably won't be at the University of North Carolina next year.

"I don't know that, and since I don't the most important thing I talk to my team about is us, us. We can't worry about their emotional state. We can control our emotional state." <-

-> “Coming into this year, I was on top of the world,” he said. “Can’t wait to get on the field. In camp, I tweaked my hammy, that set me back a little bit. We get to Maryland, my reps are limited.

“Then we’re preparing for Merrimack and in practice I go to catch a ball, I catch it and the ball gets punched out and I break my finger. They told me I had to get surgery that Friday, but I told them the sport means too much to me. I tried to do everything I could to play with it broken. I scored my touchdown, helped the team any way I could, then I said it’s time to get the surgery.”

The surgery was successful, but it was a complicated break, multiple fractures on the left pinky, affecting the knuckle, requiring three screws. He was fitted with a small cast but the doctors were concerned that with one hit it could fracture again, and more seriously, causing irreparable damage. So they did not clear Rosa for contact for several weeks. He had two carries against Wake Forest in October, his only touches since the surgery.

“I get cleared finally,” he said, “we’re late in the season. I sit down with Coach (Jim) Mora, he gave me his thoughts. We decided it was best to redshirt the season, with the way things were going, that would be the best situation.” <-

-> “That’s the plan,” he said. “I’ve waiting. Ever since Week 1, it hasn’t been normal for me. I’ve just been waiting. I’ve been hungry. … I can’t wait to get out there. If I get my opportunity, whenever that comes, I’m going to show everyone what they’ve been missing.” <-

-> “We are well north of 20,000 tickets at the moment and we’re blowing past last year’s high for Boston College,” Miller said. “The UConn and the Tar Heel faithful are certainly showing strong support for the game and we’re excited to see a pretty packed Fenway on game day.” <-

-> “We are an ACC-AAC game, and we are very proud of that, but there are some opportunities and some certain situations that allow us to be flexible,” Miller said. “We, through our partnership with ESPN Events, basically work to find another home – another bowl game – that works for the AAC, for the teams that we would have selected. And that allows us to go outside of the conference. We were not allowed to just sort of bypass our American Athletic selection and just take whoever we want, there has to be a suitable sort of alternative for them, and our partners and friends at ESPN Events were able to do that and find bowl games for those teams that were more geographically appealing, so to speak.

“That allowed us to take UConn who, along the same lines, is geographically appealing for us. It kind of works for everyone. We do everything we can and we love our partnership with the American and we want to stay in line when we can, but if there’s a better solution for everybody, we’re certainly open to exploring it and I think that’s what played out this year.” <-

I’m assuming there must be some $$ changing hands if the Fenway Bowl pays more than the AAC alternative bowl

I doubt it. The invited schools have a ticket minimum and a southern AAC school would find it more economical to go to a closer bowl with the reduced travel and alums closer to the bowl to buy tickets. For a bowl like this, a school may break even or even lose money given travel, hotels, meals, ticket guarantees, other expenses,...
