Heck yeah!!! We are up there with the Kentucky's, North Carolinas, the Dukies, and Kansas programs. This is awesome!!!

NO! We are better than Kansas, NC, and KY in the modern era. And are only tied with Duke because they had a 2 championship head start

And has tied Duke for the most since the tournament expanded in 1985. Let that all sink in for a minute.

Being a Blue Blood isn't even a question anymore; we're arguably the best basketball program of the modern era.

If I could like this post more than once, I would.

They both matter. But Championships matter more than Final Fours. And, since the 64 team era started, no college has more titles than UConn.

Amazing

Not to be overlooked is that we beat both Duke and Ky each in the final four and title game.

The only two programs than can even come close to making an argument as being better than us in the last 20 years. And we're 4-0 against both of them on the sports biggest stage.

GO HUSKIESSS!!! #1...again

Another potential factor when measuring success is to look at the total number of Consensus All-Americans. I looked only at the teams that had won multiple titles over the stretch. I only counted a player once, even if they repeated.

Consensus All Americans since the field expanded (1985)
  • Duke – 13 (Johnny Dawkins, Danny Ferry, Christian Laettner, Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill, Elton Brand, Chris Carawell, Shane Battier, Jason Williams, JJ Reddick, Sheldon Williams, Nolan Smith, Jabari Parker)
  • Kansas – 8 (Danny Manning, Raef LaFrenz, Paul Pierce, Drew Gooden, Nick Collison, Wayne Simien, Sherron Collins, Thomas Robinson)
  • UConn – 6 (Donyell Marshall, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, Emeka Okafor, Kemba Walker, Shabazz Napier)
  • Kentucky – 6 (Lenny Walker, Jamal Mashburn, Tony Delk, Ron Mercer, John Wall, Anthony Davis)
  • UNC – 6 (Kenny Smith, J.R. Reid, Jerry Stackhouse, Antawn Jamison, Joe Forte, Tyler Hansborough)
  • Indiana – 4 (Steve Alford, Calbert Cheaney, AJ Guyton, Victor Oladipo)
  • Louisville – 3 (Pervis Ellison, Clifford Rozier, Russ Smith)
One thing that jumps out: voters gave a huge benefit of the doubt to Duke. No surprise, I guess, but Nolan Smith and Chris Carawell in particular jump out as players who are unimpressive. AJ Price and Caron Butler, for instance, were clearly superior to them, and neither made the teams.

But UConn did better on this than I thought they would. I perhaps missed a player for Kentucky or UNC, but regardless, we equal them despite giving them a five year head start and never getting the benefit from voters. The UConn team kills any of those other teams.
