Why does the journalistic community say it did?

After the 2013 season the Big East decided to add football. A number of non-football schools left (aka "the catholic schools"). I believe they had to pay an exit fee to the Big East. Then the Big East looked at it's membership and decided to change their name to something better reflective of their geography, hence the AAC. The catholic schools then offered to buy the name for a million or two and they used that name to form their new conference.

So why does our journalistic community still say that UConn is "returning to the BE" or "when UConn left the BE"? Sure, it's convenient but it isn't true.

Methinks this is like counting the number of angels who can dance on the head of a pin. Help me out here: What the hell is the point of this thread?
