With the loss of Caroline Ducharme to graduation and Ayanna Patterson and Ice Brady to transfers, UConn really needs at least one more forward. Since Laura Somfai signed with TCU in supersonic time, who's the best forward for UConn to offer in the transfer portal?

I don’t believe they’ll take one just to fill a roster spot. It should be a serious, impact player. None of those three were major contributors this season and wouldn’t project to be this coming season if staying. If there’s not a seriously talented player available in the portal or in the international market, I would save the slot for the 2027 class this fall with Long or others as possibilities. I’m fairly sure Auriemma has some on his radar.

I'm not saying you are wrong but they didn't lose anyone who played last season or was expected to get minutes this season. /C they lost was Serah Williams and Olivia Vukosa will more than make up for those minutes.

They lost Azzi and Serah from people who played solid minutes and are replacing them with the two incoming freshman and I would expect at least Morgan Cheli to be in the mix.

Adding more players to the mix would be problematic (if you ask me). If anyone comes in it might be more along the lines of the depth types you see on the men's side. Older players that recognize they aren't going to play but want to finish off their careers living the good life at a major program.

Agreed an athletic rebounder and tough defender off the bench

With Somfai gone, I guess the players at the top of my list would include Addy Brown (Iowa State), Moore,Carlton and Lee(Texas), Akot (Oklahoma State), a 6-3 player from Maryland, Mamadou or something like that, Trygger from NC State, Baker from Virginia Tech (who is from West Hartford), Burroughs from Syracuse, Forbes from Marquette to name a few.

We might get some other candidates in the portal. Kinda wondering if Shaq's daughter might enter from Florida since they had a coaching change and several other players have left.

That was fast. I was wondering if UConn had any interest in Somfai given that we were one of her three finalists a year ago. You'd think portal players and teams on their final list would be a no-brainer in this portal stuff, but maybe not.

I agree with you, however, if you look at the bench, if Sara or Blanca are forced out of a game/games, who's going to be playing up front?
I wouldn't take just a bench filler, but I'd be interested in a solid, athletic forward who can rebound and defend.....I think either Justice Carlton or Skylar Forbes would be very helpful players if they were interested in UConn......

I like Justice Carlton out of Texas. Might not mean anything now, but UConn made her Top 5 coming out of HS.
Very surprised both she and Crump (Sp?) are looking elsewhere. Probably seeing dismissed court time with what Vic is bringing in. I think Crump would be a decent fit as Azzi’s replacement. (small forward)

Maybe after some time in college, NIL have more of an influence.

It would certainly have to be someone capable of playing in an emergency. But a reasonably high-quality mid-major player that wants to experience the allure of being the UConn Husky player they dreamed of as a young girl might be out there (among the 1000+ players in the portal). The 6'3" player that was able to excel at that level with their superior size and athleticism compared to those around them. There is likely a nice little pay-day that would come with it.

I was quite surprised at the quality of pure practice/emergency player the men's program was able to attract. One earned his scholarship when Reed was out early in the season and another earned his in the first round when Demary was out for the game.

And the men's program has nowhere near the mystique of the women's program.

I think this is an either or situation. I really like Carlton as she has shown flashes of BRILLIANCE, but only has 2 years left. Crump is more “potential” so not sure how elite a shooter she really is. I don’t see UConn going for both and honestly don’t think they will pursue either but I hope they go after one of them.

Yeah and I think TCU has some deep pocketed benefactors. Still all this portal and NIL stuff ruins college sports IMO because it means virtually every player is a free agent at the end of every season. I think Geno has said something about how he feels like he has to re-recruit his team every year, and I'm quite certain there is a ton of tampering going on but everyone just accepts it now because the NCAA has essentially been rendered toothless.

Bingo, I think she would fit in very well, wonder if coming to UCONN to be a rotation player instead of a starter is what she wants.

From Texas, Justice Carlton seems like a sweet girl. And, yes, she showed signs of brilliance. Vic's issues with Justice had to do with defense and inconsistent effort. I don't see Geno taking a chance on her.

Crump is a mystery to me. But, yes, she is very skilled and talented. Vic was very high on Crump. She never seemed engaged with the team.

Jordan Lee. This is the transfer that really stings. She is an all-around great player. I could see her taking over Azzi's role. She can shoot from the outside. This year, she became more aggressive driving to the basket. She is a disciplined defender. She's a very good athlete (high school track star.) And finally, she's a great student. She is not as good a shooter as Azzi. But she is good. UCLA seems the most obvious landing spot. But I certainly have no inside information here.

agree with your post
GA has said numerous times that the large roster is not
manageable
there are 7 players returning from an 9player
rotation, MC who was in the rotation in 24-25 season
and 2freshman one who will undoubtedly get meaningful minutes if not, be a starter
Just don’t see where transfer player would make sense

People were thrown off last year by the roster size of seemingly available players when Geno knew he could not count on Carol, Ice, Ayanna, and Morgan to play and that Gandy was a developmental player. That only leaves Kelis out and we would have seen more of her if there were a few injuries (or had K9 not worked out so well).

That TCU seems like it is just buying players now. I thought for sure we would get Laura Somfai.

This is interesting about Crump. In another post, I believe @southie indicated that Crump had encouraged Bjorn to go to Texas. That wouldn't seem to add up if she was disengaged. Any thoughts on that?

You guys remember Morgan will be coming back, right?
Nan, do you have any sense of how Gandy developed this session? Is she ready to be the backup center behind Jana?

How about a frontcourt rotation of Sarah, Blanca, Olivia and Jana with Morgan/Allie as emergency options?

I do agree we could use another forward/center though. The new "post injury teams Geno" certainly sees the benefit of extra depth. He could even use both open slots.
