24 teams. Navy 85, UConn 80 in buffalo ny in first round. John Clune scored 42 points for Navy. He later became athletic director at Air Force, where they play in Clune Arena. Like the Hurleys, he was born in Jersey City where he attended St. Peter’s Prep. In 2003, he received the John L Toner Award, named for the UConn football coach/athletic director.
Senior Worthy Patterson, the first UConn alum to play in the nba, scored 21 points while junior Art Quimby had 19 points and 28 rebounds. Sophomore Gordon Ruddy scored 12 points.

LaSalle and Tom Gola won the title.
