UConn Metrics (1/18)

I think he hasn't eye tested the other Big East teams. I'd like to know which 4 are going to beat us. We've already won 5 road games. @ St John's, @ Villanova, and @ Creighton are the toughest games left.
100% - we need to go 2-1.
4th in Warren Nolan’s RPI. No question that any resume based ranking will have us higher than any performance based ranking. Resume rankings say we keep winning against a good schedule. Predictive rankings look at the struggles to beat Providence, Seton Hall and Georgetown and attribute it to a luck element as if who wins close games is more random than winning being a skill/trait in and of itself.
We have the top resume in the country according to Maya. I'm not worried about our seeding at all as long as we keep winning. I simply want to see this team get to playing a style of offensive basketball that looks like NC potential.

This ^^. We shot less than 10% from 3 @ Gt. That's crazy.
The Huskies were 5-26 from three against Georgetown, which is 19%. Not good but not less than 10%. Where did you get that from?

We’ve won games close games we would have won by 15-20 if our 3 point shooting was even average or slightly below average (with the exception of the PC game where both teams shot the lights out). It’s a fine line, but if we make 2-3 more open 3’s
And stop shooting 15-20% from 3 and 60% from the FT line most of these games are 15+ point wins. Our defense has allowed us to win games that last year would have been losses on poor shooting nights

You are correct. I was confusing with Ak/Solo 1/11 which was in my head. Thx for pointing it out.

But if they shoot even a reasonable rate they get 3-4 more threes and game isn’t close

The metrics really don’t matter. All I can tell you is the powers that be can’t wait until we lose a game. I’m thinking we will be a three or four seated because we’re not part of the cartel.

Cartel shmartel. They've deserved every seed they've gotten the last few years. Maybe in 2023 you could have argued for the last 3 seed but they were the first 4 seed so I think they were right where they should have been.

This fear that people are out to get UConn is pure fiction.

False. I agree they are not out to get UConn but if you are not in a power conference they are out to get you. If Purdue had been a two time national champion, they would have had the 5 seed last year

Yeah no. We’ll be at worst a 2.

I do get the sense we aren’t the most loved team nationally this year as Dan Hurley is an acquired taste and this team really doesn’t offer much pizazz so far this year. They have been pretty boring from a purely unbiased perspective, sans the PC comeback. There is no real star on the team, or high flyers. A bunch of lunch palers.

Who cares if they aren't the most loved team this year? This is where you lose me with these bizarre theories.

I don't care - who said I did? I care about Uconn winning and other teams losing.

It's not a theory, it's some of the national views.

Purdue wouldn't have been a 5 seed with our resume last year.

Here is a summary of top 25 teams based on averages of various metrics. The lack of dominant wins recently hurts the analytic metrics, but at 18-1 with multiple quality wins, that shouldn’t matter much when it comes to seeding. The resume-based metrics like WAB are high on us, as they should be.

Here's my question:

How much longer will we need to wait until these ratings algorithms are refined enough that there will no longer be any need for the tournament, and we can save time by awarding the trophy to whoever ends the season with the best rating?

And then maybe AI could just tell us how whole seasons would go and no one would have to waste their time playing, coaching or watching college basketball!

Is Haslam some parody metric?

In what universe would UConn be the 15th ranked team?
and he has Florida at 12

Wasn’t it universally recognized at the time that 23 UConn was majorly shafted as a 4 seed? Weren’t we top 10 in Kenpom during selection Sunday?
So in a thread where there is a concensus that folks are overly focused on KenPom and performance based metrics as opposed to resume based metrics, you are proposing that we were majorly shafted because we were given a 4 seed instead of a third seed? Really?

The Committee has been clear for years that they give no weight to prior year’s results. And your theory is we’re discriminated against because weight wasn’t given to the fact that we were coming off back to back championships in prior years?
