Hindsight is 20/20, and we may not always agree with or even understand their motivation; but no, contrary to the opinions of many here, they aren't. ;)
 
Dick Blumenthal is a terrible human being.

The lawsuit isn't why BCU kept us out. Pitt was involved too, and they got an invite. Don't give BCU fans any ammo in using that lawsuit as the reason, instead of the truth, which is the fact that their AD was scared of UConn.

It was more like Blumenthal personally naming Donna Shall, Fr Leahy and Gene DeFilippo personally in the lawsuit. If you ever read any of DeFlippo's quotes about the lawsuit he makes no bones about how serious that was. Why do you think Shalala refused to return phone calls when Pitt and UL got in.

I agree. The Big 12 schools seem more exotic. Playing Pitt at home? Been there, done that. The Texas Longhorns in East Hartford? Wow. Even the Kansas State Wildcats have some degree of intrigue.

Having said that, we belong with BC, Syracuse, and Pitt like Yale belongs with Harvard, Cornell, and Penn.

And their president, Father Lie-hy.

UCONN is not in the ACC for the exact same reason that UH is not in the Big 12. Texas was too afraid that Houston would continue to routinely beat them in football and other sports. BS College was afraid it would become UCONN's New England lapdog. Different parts of the country...exact same motivation and result.
 
If the SEC decides to expand and grab a school or two from either the ACC or Big 12 that could open another door into the ACC regardless of what Notre dame does. This is all going to be a timing thing. Does the SEC make a move quickly if at all before Fla St and/or Clemson get comfy with changes in their current conference? Does the B1G get antsy and try to grab Oklahoma before the SEC does(that could open a door for UConn into B1G land)? Does the ACC say, "we better grab UConn before somebody else does," as a preemptive move in case they get poached? It sure would make things interesting if the SEC started clucking about possible expansion.

If the ACC GOR has been extended through 2036, it doesn't seem worth it for any team to try to back out of it at this point or at anytime for a long time. The ACC appears to be sown up for all realistic discussions.

At this point, the SEC would have to figure out a way to bankroll the lost revenue/exit fees for an ACC team to leave for the SEC, and why would they? The SEC would have to be desperate to get a school to go to those extremes to get them. They can have Houston right now for the taking, and probably low ball them on the revenue split for many years. They don't need any ACC teams.

A signed 20 year ACC Grant of Rights kills that idea as far as "grabbing" any ACC school.

The Big 12 teams are locked up by a GOR until 2024, regardless if its expands or not.

As soon as the ACC news broke earlier this week, speculation immediately turned to college sports' eternal question: Will this force the Irish to finally join a conference in football?

The short-term answer is no.

If ESPN and/or the ACC is holding out hope for Notre Dame football, it's going to have to be a long play. Three years ago, the school extended its contract with NBC through 2025.

It's not worth rehashing but the people I'm referring to were high-ups at the schools.
 
Notre Lame = unbridled arrogance. Many of us will be pushing up daisies before the Irish EVER deign to join any conference. Why should they, when conferences (Big East, ACC) are willing to allow them to glom on as a leech, sucking as much blood out of the deal as they possibly can, while contributing absolutely nothing in return. They're the quintessential vampire of modern big time collegiate athletics. Somebody ought to drive a stake through their heart!

The absolute best sporting event of my life was being at ND and watching their arrogant fans leave the football stadium while the UCONN faithful shocked the world and shook the foundation with a deafening, "U! C! O! N! N! UCONN! UCONN! UCONN!"

Surprised Charlie Weiss was not tarred and feathered! LOL! It was such a good high after experiencing the senseless tragic death of Jasper Howard. Jasper was our twelfth man on the field that great day.

You could be right but I choose to believe in Tim Brando's recent comments on ND joining because of the ACC network $$. Assuming you are right and ND remains Independent then how about Navy as ND's surrogate for football only and then bring in UCONN as the 16th team!

ND gets a full share of all ACC Network revenues without having to join in football or even add a sixth football game per year.

The ACC Grant of Rights, extended ESPN contract and Network agreements provides ND's other sports a stable home for the next 20 years and specifically states that ND football is not required to join in the next 20 years.
