UConn Men's Soccer - 2025

UConn loses to Georgetown 4-1. UConn took an early lead and Georgetown tied it with a penalty kick, 1-1 at the half.
Georgetown scored again late, then UConn with an own goal, then georgetown very late.

Threading the needle with this pass

Good response to what was a devastating loss to Villanova. Another good opportunity against Georgetown coming up.

Well they took the opportunity and decided to throw it in the Potomac.

With no football, basketball, or hockey this weekend, this was my main course for the weekend. I saw a Georgetown team that played an intense game Tuesday night against a ranked Denver team (UConn had the week off), get stronger than us as the game went on, looked fresher and quicker than us as the game went on, and outplayed/out toughed/out coached us as the game went on. We should have been the fresher team even if we had lost having more rest. The fact we weren't tells me all I need to know about how this is going in Year 4.

There are some sports UConn can't win a national championship in (IE. Volleyball, softball, football, many women's sports, and likely baseball). Men's soccer isn't one of them. It will never sit well with me we Kevin Ollie'd this hire. We are going on now a lost decade because some of these aging "legend" coaches just have to instill their guy on the way out the door.

When the obviously biased Georgetown commentary crew is openly relieved at how Gbandi is subbing, I think that's a pretty bad sign. No subs in the entire first half despite Georgetown having 74% possession and 13 shots in the half and running our midfield ragged. Then in the second half, he took off his two most creative players (Balthi Saunders, Sabri Hanni) with over 20 minutes left directly following arguably our best spell in the entire game. Then he subs off our best CB (Roudette-Gregory) and the replacement puts in an own goal with his first touch of the ball.

None of the decisions made sense in a vacuum, and they're even worse in the context of the game.

Our lack of team speed and physicality is alarming. They did run us ragged. They could have had like 7 goals if not for some nice saves by our goalie. They got their PK because some dorky white boy just willed the ball forward in a battle against 2 separate UConn defenders and the 3rd defender just hip checked him down in the box.

In the quotes the Georgetown coach mentioned he was surprised because UConn had the entire week to prepare and they didn’t have that luxury. Guess that’s the difference between a championship program and one that’s not.

UConn has obviously let this program slide. Perhaps on the chopping block for future cuts? Clearly terrible coaching hire. Program has gone way downhill.
