UConn Men's Basketball Beats Soviet Team 82-81

I love seeing who was at the bottom of the BigEast back then on page 6. They fled and still suck.

That game wads the tipoff that the Dream Season was on. It was a barn burner. The Soviet coach said UConn was the best team they played on the trip. And they had lost to the hot tub UNLV team.

This Nov 1990 Husky Blue & White reports that JC and Geno signed k extensions through 1993.

JC’s new deal provided for the following annual compensation: $120K base salary, $85K guaranteed for speaking engagements and another $50K in deferred annuity payments.

Geno’s deal provided for the following annual compensation: $55K base salary, a country club membership and profits from his summer camp. He could also keep monies from speaking engagements “consistent with state limitations”.

Now, 36 years later, here is the 2025-6 annual compensation: Dan Hurley makes $7.775M plus incentive bonuses (and a $1M retention bonus) and Geno makes $3.54M plus incentive bonuses.

Wow!

I think the game against the Soviets was the first time they wore something resembling a modern looking uniform. I remember being so excited about these. Their uniforms for the Dream Season were a few years behind the times to say the least.
