UConn in the NBA - April

How many guys play as hard as Castle in the NBA regular season? Spurs games are must watch, and it’s not just because of Wemby. Castle is the guy who gives the Spurs something I never thought I would see on that team - flare. His aggression is demoralizing to opponents.

Oh, and he’s improving his 3’s. Not there yet, but he’s up almost 4 percent over last year. Might hit 35 percent next year.
FWIW. He’s making the same amount of 3s as he did as a rookie (1.2). He’s just taking less of them.

Being able to shoot 3s aren’t as necessary for his game since he’s the full time creator on offense and doesn’t play off ball as much anymore. I love it for him and his ceiling.

It’s a huge deal. If he wasn’t improving as a shooter teams wouldn’t guard him and would swarm Wemby in the post. His and Harper’s vast improvement as shooters lines up squarely with this 29-3 run the Spurs are on.

Especially key in the playoffs when team defense improves and teams try to use every advantage.

DC with 18/13/2/2 in a win over the Clippers that gives Portland a pretty good chance to lock up the 8th seed in the 7vs8 play in vs the Suns. They still need to win Sunday vs the Kings but with the Kings ready for Cancun and Portland with something to play for that should be an easy dub.

Hawkins with another 20 piece. 20 points in 22 minutes on 8-15. Back to back 20+ point games
There were people calling him a bust earlier in the year, I said he just needs consistent playing time the way Jeremy Lamb did.

He will find a role with a team somewhere and have a solid career.

Castle is 6-6 and looks like a child next to Wemby. Still can’t get over how a guy can be that big and that freaking good.
The difference looks as dramatic if not moreso than Castle and the women interviewing. 😆

Andre Jackson has spent most of the season only getting garbage time minutes on a Bucks team that is way out of the playoff race and has been surrounded in public drama about culture

He’s still ready to run onto the court and fight 240lb EJ Liddell to defend his teammate

This is a guy you want on your roster.

Looks like Doc Rivers is finally out of Milwaukee. He is so Mid as a coach but he keeps getting jobs.
I remember when he was named coach midseason I said it was a mistake. Ended up being a mistake. I watched him enough with the Celtics. I don't think he's a good coach. Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen made him look like a good coach.

I'm a long-time Sixers fan. He was definitely the weak part of "the Plan"

Newton is active today for Houston against the Grizzlies (Cam isn’t with a back). It’s a blowout so he may get some run in the fourth.

Had a 12-point fourth quarter. Started out hot with a three and a jumper right away. Ended 4-9 from the floor. Maybe a little shot happy - but he had 3 career NBA points coming in, so sure can’t blame him for letting it rip.

During his pregame session in Philadelphia in February, Doc Rivers told reporters that 76ers center Joel Embiid is “the most talented player” that he has ever coached. He shared that same sentiment with the NBC announcing team that was broadcasting that night’s nationally televised game. The comment immediately exploded on social media as NBA observers wondered why Rivers would make such a claim while he was currently coaching Antetokounmpo, an NBA champion who has accomplished far more than Embiid... it's a very good question. Why would he do that?

Doc had a good 5ish year run in his nearly 30 year coaching career. Got the first real super team in the modern era and was successful with them right away

But that was almost 20 years ago. Doc hasn’t done anything since then. He’s had incredibly talented rosters and is more known for blowing multiple 3-1 playoff leads than he is for his 2008 ring

Incredibly overrated. Hasn’t done anything in 15+ years but is always assessed as an elite coach

Zach Lowe and Bill Simmons LOVE Steph Castle.

The only thing that annoys me is Simmons claiming he wanted to take Castle 1, when he asked a couple times “could Castle be the top pick?” But he never went to bat for him at 1 like he claims in hindsight.

But he is voting him 3rd team All-NBA, in his 2nd year.

The NBA’s regular season is over, and it was an up-and-down one for former UConn players. Some are thriving, like Stephon Castle and Donovan Clingan, while others are just trying to hang on to a roster spot and ensure they’ll be in these rankings next season.

Castle and Clingan will now look towards the playoffs, where they would end up playing each other if Portland beats Phoenix in the Play-In Tournament first round on Tuesday.

Here’s a look at how the former Huskies fared in the NBA this year.
