Whaler I know that you love being contrarian on this board, but that last sentence is a pretty huge reach wouldn't you say? UConn has supported football very, very well and exclusive of stadium size can match up well against the facilities of any other university.

They hired and continue to employ Pasqualoni. Have sat idly by while season ticket sales have dwindled. Still pay assistants less than comparable schools. Put on an embarrassment of a Spring Game this year. Haven't had the stomach to be more flexible on academics for potential athletes. Have almost literally no presence on social media. While the rest of the world has been aggressive looking for new conference affiliations, UConn continued to try and save the Big East and watched Louisville eat their lunch.

So maybe it's a huge reach, but maybe it isn't.

This is ranking Basketball but basically they try to quantify how much support there is for a program controlling for wins - basically how "fair weather" a fan-base is.

Most of that success is attributed to Edsall - especially after seeing UConn struggle the past 2 years. In terms of program perception I don't think UConn has moved all that much.

It's similar to Cincinnati situation's where most of the success was attributed to Brian Kelly's coaching and once he left for ND Cincinnati went back to not being regarded any better than before.

This is spot on. The ACC heavyweights said it, something like UConn will always be there if we need it. With UL available all the Big 12 had to do was sway one (or three) ACC schools as whaler well points out. Who knows maybe the price of Swafford swallowing UL academics was a handshake agreement by FSU/Clemson/GT to support a future GOR.

No way is FSU/Clemson/GT signing a GOR if, once again, the ACC fb schools are bested by Tobacco Road with UConn trumping UL.

I think (unfortunately) that Swafford has played CR very well given his ACC cards. Maybe he wants UConn to lock down NYC, but he knows that until AAU is a reality for UConn there is no hurry. The BIG on the other hand has NOT played CR very well. They are in a commanding position and they come up with Maryland and RU? Yes Nebraska fell into their hands but that was a no brainer. Maryland and RU?

I think the ACC should invite UConn full member and Navy as a fb/LAX member only (maybe with a 7 year maturity. They know ND is never joining for FB so why not take back NYC, have 6 teams for a LAX league and round out a super 16 team conference.

My only point of contention is the stadium size/capacity issue.

As a top 25 team they drew 45k in a 55k seat stadium for our game last season. Aside from last season, you very rarely see The Rent with many empty seats.

Basically, they hired Strong and we hired P and have been on opposite trajectories since then.

I think there is nothing inherently better about Louisville than UConn except they've been better the past two seasons and that was enough to get then in.

@Agree with the majority of your post and might add what if this situation had occurred during L'ville's Kragthorpe era?We would be in the ACC...timing worked against us!

1-10 scale. Lets say in '04 it was a 1, and now it's a 3. You can spin that as a 300% increase all you want but a 3 is still a 3 and we are on the outside looking in. Our perception hasn't improved nearly enough- otherwise we'd be in a real conference not having discussions like these.
