That dude is very crafty. Watching that replay... his body doesn't really hit Cole. The ball and forearm do, then he's already flinging himself sideways to improve his chances of getting the call. He read the situation, forgot about trying to get the basket, and became a thespian.
His shoulder went right into the middle of Cole's chest. Pretty clear from this replay and there was one bouncing around on twitter from the reverse angle that was even more clear. He was just out of control and then tried to bail out of the contact/sell it at the last minute. For all the discussion, based on where the ref was, it was probably a pretty easy call for him.

The main problem is many people seem to have a misconception that if something is not a charge, then it must be a block, which is not how it works. RJ clearly got to his spot in time, outside the circle, and was stationary. The only question then is whether Gillespie avoided contact with RJ enough for it to be a no call or a charge, but it doesn't really matter because either way Nova loses possession. Seeing it referenced all over the internet as a block/charge call is just annoying and inaccurate to the play.

Totally agree it is annoying for those who think it’s one or the other.....the call on that play since Cole was firmly in position outside of the circle is a charge or out of bounds on Gillespie...so the outcome is the same either way where UConn get the ball out of sounds....there should be no controversy at all on that play.

As for the tie-up, you can’t assume it’s a foul on that....Cole’s hand was on the ball and didn’t just grab him which is usually when the foul is called.....think that play is a great example that you don’t just get the foul call by holding it on the sidelines....think it was a great defensive play by Cole and an appropriate call by the refs

Like I said in a previous post, when The Iron Sheik is tweeting about UConn basketball, we're back.
