Literally. After the Tennessee game on Saturday the team gets 8 days off. I'm thinking this will help the team. A young team might benefit from grind while getting a chance for these minor injuries to heal up.

Or for the NCAA to clear Boat. Although even if they do they will wait to announce it until after the ND game.

While I like the idea of a break from games to give the coaches more time for instruction, review film with the players, let some nagging injuries heal and give them time to square away RB's eligibility, there's no such thing as a freebie.

All this means is later in the year, there's going to be more games bunched together tightly.

Shabazz can probably use the time off, that's for sure. Rough to be playing with an injury while being the only PG in the rotation.

The week after the 8-day break we have 3 games in 7 days
(or 4 games in 9 days depending on how you look at it)...

These are youngsters who should be pretty resilient. We won five games in five days last year so 3 games in 7 days doesn't concern me. I'll take the break now for Shabazz and Olander to heal and Boatright to get re-eligible and worry about the rest later.

The break is followed by a brutal 5 game stretch, so I think it can only be a good thing.

It's also good that the ND game is the first one that follows- not that it's a gimme by any means, but after that it's @ Gtown, Hall, @UL, @Cuse.

How did they come up with a schedule like this getting late in the season? I can see the need around exams or Christmas break but not in January. I don't like teams to have a layoff, especially if they are playing well. The only benefit I see is that it might help minimize the games Boatright misses while the NCAA reviews things unless in their 'wisdom' they again gives a suspension for a certain number of games in which case the layoff will not help. It can't help team chemistry to have Boatright popping in and out of the lineup especially in the thick of BE season.

Actually, I think this sets up nicely. A little time to get healthy and then quick games to get into a rhythm.

End of the season, especially the way Pitt looks, seems to be shaping up (somewhat) lightly. I can see them getting on a roll after the game at Syracuse.

Another way to look at it is after Wednesday, Uconn will not play another Big East game for 11 days.

This is one of those it-is-what-it-is things. The extra time will be beneficial in allowing some players to heal up and if RB is set free, allow him to come back w/ as few games as possible missed. But seeing how the team has been playing well and getting better the past 2 games, I hope that long layoff doesn't take a bite out of our momentum. As someone pointed out, they were at their best last season when they played back-to-back 5 times improving with each game even though they had no rest between games.

Healing...........I don't know, Calhoun's practices can be worse than games. Maybe he will give the kids some time off (2 days or so) to properly rest. That's if there is such a thing for a 19/20 year old.
