There was an excellent presentation on UConn Football tonight on NIL, improvements in recruiting via the transfer portal, the Rent, coaching changes, the challenges of recruiting, and how donating to bleeding blue for good actually will help UConn hopefully get to the promised land, coaching changes, etc. 73 people attended on line. Many former players. Very educational. Any other boneyarders participate?

They are going to hire a DC. The thrust of the webinar was the necessity to support NIL, via the bleed blue for good initiative. The only way that UConn will be able to field a competitive team is by NIL money. They explained how NIL worked and dispelled rumors that are all over social media. They feel that conference realignment is expected to occur and they said the only way UConn would get to where it belongs in a power conference is by showing a committment to football and by starting to win. Very impressive presentation. Coach feels very happy with the transfer class incoming and hopes to get a couple more in the spring. Opitimistic overall.

Wow I am ecstatic early this year, usually I have to wait until spring for my unbridled enthusiasm.

What were the rumors that were dispelled?

Any indication on how much was raised for football to date?

Rumors dispelled were that NIL is making millionaires out of players, providing expensive sport cars, etc. Discussion of how NIL money is helping some players, such as those that are married with children, survive outside of dorm life. One other thing mentioned was that of an on campus stadium. At this time, it is a pipe dream. As previously mentioned, a donor with 500 million to spare would need to come along. In addition, it was noted that hopefully upgrades to the Rent will be forthcoming if the state is willing to spend 60 million or so.

Right after the season, I donated to the D'Amelio Collective for football. Can someone explain why the University is behind this collective versus D'Amelio?

Bleeding Blue for Good is a nonprofit and focused on charitable endeavors for the athletes and D'Amelio Collective is more focused on helping athletes build their brand. We need both.

AD David Benedict: "As it relates to football, NIL will be our great equalizer…”

Very true. As much as everyone complains about NIL being the “Wild West,” it’s a shortcut to building a winning football program. Attracting talent is now mainly about cash so we should be able to recruit a much higher caliber of athlete we wouldn’t have dreamed about before NIL.
